Language pet peeves- list yours too

One language pet peeve I've recently developed is when people use the word "seen" incorrectly. Like "I seen this cool truck yesterday."

Spelling is everything. See what I mean?

But it's not the spelling that's incorrect there. Every word on that sign is correctly spelled. It's the incorrect homonym usage...."find" vs "fined".

Course & coarse

Affect & effect

Aisle & isle

......the list is long.

you could say it's spelled wrong, they just forgot to put the 'e' in. in this case, it just happened to spell another word

Like my language pet peeve is like when like people cannot like form a sentence without like saying the word "like".

Talk to a teenager lately?

Like everyday lol, like jk and totally so yeah.

Not necessarily a "language issue" thing, but a two-sided coin regarding questions either asked or answered - either too much info or not enough, which elicits further questioning.

Simple yes/no questions do not necessarily need elaborate, drawn-out soliloquies to explain why the answer is either yes or no. If further questions are needed, they will be asked for clarification purposes.

Answers should be given to go with the question that has been asked, and a question in return is not really an "answer" to a question.

At times, "I don't know" is really an honest answer. Asking the same question several times, or several different ways is not going to change the fact that the answer is not known at the time.

This semi-related issue takes on many other variations, as I'm sure we've all experienced to some degree.

People get confused when I say phuck because they think I'm saying the other F*** but I tell them I'm not swearing because it's spelled with a PH and not an F...they look at me strange...and I smile...and they run!

Other things are when I tell them my name they ask is that with a "c" or a "k" and I say "Both for phuck sakes"...and then they run...
