1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter OHV engine coolant drain/pet cock

where is the engine coolant drain/pet cock located on a 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter OHV engine? please and thanks.

I have never seen any engine block from the factory that had a official drain petcock on the engine block itself. Most did have one on the bottom of the radiator, but if someone put a new aftermarket radiator in it, a lot of those do not have a drain at all on them.

I've had some mazda four bangers with oem engine block drain/pet cocks on them. Anyways, I am having to do an intake manifold job on my 1997 ford ranger with 4.0 liter OHV engine. What is the best way of draining the coolant to do such job on this application?

Loosen lower radiator hose clamp, at either end, twist the hose to break the seal and coolant will start to drain out
Remove rad cap after and it will drain faster


There is a radiator drain plug on passenger side, lower down, facing engine
Plastic threaded plug
It can be used to drain coolant but is often clogged by debris collected at bottom of radiator
