Language pet peeves- list yours too

pretty soon, we're just gonna talk in a series of grunts. the computer keyboard will consist of 8 letters and threads will just have a series of letters and emotocons (is that what they're called?).

.........Oh, and another is when people call something "Stupid" and they completely butcher the word, ex: Stupied, Stoopid, etc etc, seems pretty ironic to me.

So......you callin me stupied.......or what???????????

I don't have any language peeves. Write what you want, spell it wrong, use all caps, use slang, I'll get what your saying. Who the fuuck cares, just get your idea out there. :icon_thumby:

Tell em, GoodOld..........as for me myself.....my BIGEST pet peev is running outta ammunition.......spelling/grammer/punctuation/etc come in a reeeeeeel close 2nd......... ;missingteeth;

Yeah, that sucks. And .308 is expensive nowadays. Man :annoyed:

How about this: When some people talk/speak, as they end each sentence their voice rises in pitch, making each sentence sound (to me, anyway) like a question. Hard to describe in the written form, but I'm sure you have all had to listen to it. Went on a tour many years ago of the John Wayne birthplace in Winterset.....and the guide was like that. I wanted to slap her into next weekend after about 5 minutes.

I've been noticing this one a lot recently for some reason. Every time i hear someone say the word, "confiscate" they add an N. Example. "They confiNiscated my flask at the front gate of the concert" It makes my brain hurt listening to, and reading bad grammar and spelling.

Spelling is everything. See what I mean?

How about everything "jammert609@yahoo.com" says?

At least 50% of his words are spelled wrong. If by some miracle he does spell something right, its not the correct usage of that spelling.

Well that can kinda work except... Language has it's rules, exactly so that ideas CAN be clearly communicated. When you don't follow them, meanings change and your idea or point isn't clearly communicated at all.

See my post on the previous page for my point.

It just makes you try a little harder to understand. Perhaps I am more forgiving that most because of speaking different languages. I often find myself translating someone's bad English who has just learned to speak it. For instance just the other day there was a lady at a service station trying to get the kid on the other side to understand what she was saying. All he heard was her accent and how mixed up her words were. I knew right away what she wanted, because I listened to her and didn't judge her by how badly she was saying things in the wrong order. But that's language spoken, when it's written it can be royally screwed up by some people. You so right there. But it is still not too hard to read between the lines to get to the point someone is making. But then, that is just me I guess.

I saw one nearly every day for a couple weeks... should have taken a picture of it...

As much as it pains me to admit, it was on a sign for a sportsman's club.

"NRA pistol coarse, May 5"

coarse, course, curses! which one! lol....
