Are you talking about the fiberglass wrap? It keeps the heat in exhaust pipes. It also quiets the exhaust slightly.

I run generic wrap on my truck and my motorcycle it's great, 0 problems although it is delicate once cured. Also, be sure to paint it or else you will have 5,000 little fibers after the first drive.
