Josh40601's Build Thread. (D-ranged)

They are nice. Just know nothing about them. I originally planned going 4BT, but decided LS was good enough

the 4bt would be awesome... but doesn't it weigh more than the LS? lol

Yes, lots more. I can grab my 6.0L by the flywheel and drag it around the shop by hand. It was all I could do to get the 4bt to budge... let alone actually move it! Fully dressed, ready to rock they're in around the 750-800lb range.

Andrew, the ls is less than the 4.0 isn't it? I know the aluminum block ones are, but not positive about the iron block/al head version

They feel about the same, being alu head/iron block. I can't say for sure though..... I know my original iron headed 6.0L was more for sure.

meh, close enough. I'm not build a fawking race car anyway.

Update~

Well, i had a busy ass weekend...... DOUBLER IS IN!

Now that is out of the way, time for the fun....

This thing was a bitch. It didn't want to go in. At all. Fought me and my buddy every chance it got.

Here is the end product as of today...

also messed around under the hood.

The hood latch from the 05 edge was just bolted on the core support and was always flopping around, so i decided to permenantly attach it to its new home.

First i just tacked in on there so it would stop moving.

Then i burned everything in. was pretty thin, so i burnt through twice, but filled it back in. Still look like boogers, but at least they're penetrating...

Ground it down, slapped some satin black on it. Called it good

looks good buddy, your welds are getting better and better, still just need a bit more practice. Are both cases manual? set up linkages yet??

Thanks brother!

As far as linkage and cases go....

The rear case is the 1354E, so i just stretched the wires as far as i could and plugged them in.

Front is the manual. I used the stock 1350 shifter for a manual trans. It "kinda" fit.

I removed the access panel and hacked up my carpet to see everything. I had to sleeve the shifter, and i used the rear factory hole in the stock adapter plate.

Here is a shot looking straight up at it.

It shifts great there... In 2Hi and 4Hi :annoyed:

So i plan on "extending" the shifter towards the front of the truck instead of cutting into the actual floor of the truck. Cutting the access panel is no big deal, but i don't want to cut into the cab. Going to work on that this week.

So here is where i am at as of right now with things to finish.

1. New rear driveshaft (i cut and welded the Sport Trac shaft. little bit of vibration now. lol)
2. speedometer cable
3. move shifter forward
4. cut hole in access panel
5. add skid plate to bottom of crossmembers

all that has to be finished by Sunday, when i go on my shakedown run with a couple of Jeep guys out here.

backed out on the deal with That Guy today. Feel like i screwed over someone. Never was my intention. He says he understood, but the fact i was looking at another Explorer last week doesn't help my case. I do wish him the best.

Sorry fellas.

thats what i heard. I am hoping to pick one up tomorrow. Thanks Trevor

List to be completed before Sunday

1. New rear driveshaft DONE
2. speedometer cable ORDERED
3. move shifter forward DONE
4. cut hole in access panel
5. add skid plate to bottom of crossmembers
6. Fix Fuel Sending Unit.... Again.... DONE
7. hook up the air tank again

As you can see from above, the sending unit shit out on me again. This makes the 3rd time. I have a new one at the house that i am going to install. This is starting to really annoy me.
