JEEP pull off


If and when you do it, please promise us you will get it on video. You've got to put it on youtube or something. I really want to see this.
 
yah chians snap . . . a strap will give yet they have enough strength . . . good luck

i got a procomp strap rated for 33K if u id snag one even if its over kill for ur ranger. i agree, do a strap and just loop it around itself, if it lets go and has a clevis it will be a ugly mess:black_eye:. chains are ok but id rather have the strap
 
Getting power to the ground will be deciding factor, you could have 400HP but if you can't get it to the ground it does you no good. I think the jeep has more weight over the ass end than a ranger and will probably have a better chance at getting traction.
 
1:Weight
2:use your brakes to make him brake traction
3:low range
It can be rehashed many times, but that seems to be the winning recipe for you.

We did'nt do it because the day i got my truck back, he totaled his HEEP. He went Wheelin' too fast and broke all his shock mounts, sway bars and tie rod ends, and all the other mounts in the front end that are criticaly inportant.
THE HEEP IS FINALLY DEAD!!:taunt::D
 
What did he do? Flip it, then go after every mount with oxy and a hammer? Seriously how do you break everything in the front of your truck?

Ohh Ohh, Pick me, pick me, I know the answer to that one.

Ok so you start by using to much of the skinny pedal. Then just when the time is right, a huge log jumps out in front of you. You turn the wheel sharply but due to the dirt and the sharp angle the tires are at you keep sliding in the original direction. Oh SH!T!!! The log grabs the front end and tears it all from the forward frame. Leaving you in a whole HEEP of trouble. :yahoo:

For future reference, DO NOT USE 4 LOW!!!! I did and you should see how much it ended up costing me. It will FRY the planetary gears in there. The planetary gear assembly alone is $200. Best idea is to never get in a towing contest unless you have a half ton or larger. Straight front axle too. Pulling contests SUCK. My two buddies did one the other day with a 79 chevy 4x4 and a brand new or slightly used ford powerstroke dually 2x4, and it ruined two tires on the dually. Just go hill climbing or mudding dude, I'm serious. The chance of you messing something up probably is 10 times more likely at least. Like I say, If you must do it, do it in a noncritical vehicle or clunker. Not a good ole' ranger unless you have some serious mods.

There was something else at play that likely contributed to this failure. Possibly low fluid?

A whole transfer case from a junkyard also costs much less than $200. You got screwed.

but, when doing stupid shit like this...which i do often...low range is the only way to do it. if you dont automatically understand this then you shouldnt even post advice....axles/driveshafts/lockouts are easier to fix then tranny innards...low is the only way to go...unless you both go hi/2wd or whatever. low is best for the vehicles.

you just dont simply use the brakes either...its more complicated then that. its part of a tactic....you go ahead and just apply the brakes with me CHAINED or piped on to your ass and your done dude...easiest way for me to win. cause your easier to drag...unless its super loose wet/clay base or mud that can divot. terrain is everything as to what tactics you use....automatics are easiest to do this with as well for different reasons then what is obvious.

that said theres no way you were beating that xj unless it was wasted.



as for the fried planetaries.....t case or tranny? cause you can take a good running set of fords and do a few reasonable pulls without even the least bit of worry...the ford dealer has brought lot trucks down to belleville events, just to show they got the balls to drag the 24k sled with ease...so i think there may have been wear issues already present...then again i didnt witness the event , theres a reasonable point to stop...and traction usually ends that long before small tires can bust something.

It was the transfer case planetaries. When I said no 4 low, I was implying that the whole idea is stupid. I'm not dumb. In most rangers 4 high is useless except in the snow. I would agree with you that on most vehicles the transmission/transfer case is not the weak spot. More likely to strip a hub. But I am talking about a little Ranger, not a F250 or whatever that dealership was using. It is always possible that the previous owner did something to mine, but I don't think so... Everyone on here preaches about how the 1354 is so great, but every one that I have ever seen or installed or owned is screwed up. Maybe I am just used to beefier vehicles, I don't know. But like I said, pulling contests are very fun until something breaks, as it tends to. Pickups are not meant for that. Even pulling out a stump or something is not as bad; you don't have the pull on your axles from behind while you are spinning. Beefier or older vehicles, sure, you can have a pulling contest with no worries generally. One of my friends, incidentally, challenged me to a pull yesterday. He has about a 96 toyota 4x4 with a fair lift, not sure of model, but is the same size as my ranger. His exact words were: "Your pickup. I am coming for it." It is tempting, but I have learned my lesson, and then some. In my opinion gear driven transfer cases are the worst idea since "Instant Water- Just add water!!!" :rolleyes:
