I am supposed to have 4 settings for my interior fan and all I have left working is the high speed. All 4 were working when I bought the vehicle. Then I lost one speed, then the other, etc.
Winter is just around the winter is there a possibillity it might stop working all together? If it stops working and my windows are all frozen I wont be able to drive so I need to know If I must bring it in to get repaired so I am not left stranded.

probably the blower resistor... check out the tech library, it has stuff on it. fairly common.

Agreed it pretty cheap and mine has only worked on high for the last 3 years ha ha prolly cost ya 100$ from a shop to fix but if you do it yourself then its just the cost of the part and what ever time ya got in it

I just sourced this resistor at a parts store...$40 for the resistor...and they also offer a new pigtail with the connector for $20 if yours is broken (as is likely the case on most).

I've never bought a new one of these...not that I can remember...but I do remember seeing the price as $10 many years ago...now $60 if you go with the pigtail...

I usually just got them at a junkyard...the F-150 and all Rangers, BIIs, and Explorers use the same part...if you get them from a junk yard try to find a heater box that is tilted like on the F-150s...for some reason every one that I found in the F-150 was in mint condition...the Rangers were all rusted...and I think it was because the heater box and the resistor location resulted in the part getting too much direct moisture...

But...anyway...my 2¢ worth...:)

Blower resistor. You loose speeds as the resistors burn out. The high speed that still works is a direct line from the switch to the motor, no resistor to burn out. So yes, you could still loose the whole thing if the motor craps out, but you'd loose all speeds then even if the resistor was working.
