Interior dome lgith never goes off 99 Ranger

Aloha all!
I've tackled a few little repairs over this holiday break, and thought I'd investigate this as well. When I bought this truck many, many years ago, the plastic cover was off the dome light and the bulb was missing. I got a new bulb, stuck itin, and it worked! The light came on! And stayed on. I tried the positions available on the switch, but the light was either on, regardless of whether the doors were opened or closed, or the light was off, regardless of whether the doors were opened or closed. There was no location where the light would come on when the doors opened and go off when they closed, even after waiting ridiculous amounts of time (like 20 minutes).

Any thoughts on why tis might happen, and how fixable it is?

Seems a common Ranger issue is with the dome light never ever shutting off, it's actually a very easy fix. Most will tell you to throw some penetrating oil the door switch, most cars have a peg or something similar which presses in and disconnects the switch (to turn the light off), Rangers do...

On a 99 the GEM should time out after 15-20 minutes regardless, but yeah, probably a stuck door switch or something. The catch with the battery saver in the GEM is that any time you activate a door switch, it resets the timer.

Well, I could honestly claim that the light was performing as intended!

It’s supposed to save you… but like if you open the drivers door and wait for the module to kick in and shut off the light, then open the passenger door, the light comes back on and the timer starts again.
