Ok, so about a year ago I found, sitting atop of pile of crushed cars, a single un-crushed, but stripped to the freaking bone, car. Being that it was about 20 ft off the ground at the time I couldn't get a great look at it, but suspected it to be a 30s or 40s Jaguar.

Today while traipsing around the junk yard I went back into an area I haven't been in, mostly because I'm usually looking for parts for the Ranger, and this is where he keeps the 60s and back cars. Anyway, the pile is gone and my suspect car is now sitting back there next to what I momentarily thought was a Barracuda (I only saw a 1 'ft section, it turned out to be a Gremlin). It is in fact a Jag. It has not much left, including nothing that I can use to identify the year or model. It has the distinct Jag logo on the steering hub as wheel as a few wheel caps that say "Jaguar". Other than that, it has a sun roof, and most of the remaining interior parts are wood.

Anyway, on to the actual question....

Is it a bad thing if I want to buy this thing and try to fix it? I mean it doesn't even have doors and 20 feet away is a more or less complete Fairlane.

150 feet away is a more or less complete 84 or 85 B2, but I asked the guy, and the joker wants $950 for it. And that's with the salvage title!!!!

If it's that stripped, leave it. It'd cost several tens of thousands to restore.

If you can get the steering wheel however, I'd nab that sucker. Great conversation piece.

I would pass. There is probably so many rare and expensive parts you could never completly restore it unless you were rich. Your project would be a life of letdowns. Get something you can gain ground on at a reasonable speed and price so you can ENJOY the project like it should be.:icon_thumby:

Well, in that case, I might just grab the wheel for a decorative piece in my shop (when I get one) and then mosey on down the alley there for the dash from that Fairlane for when I buy (and start building) my B2.

Sounds like the Mustang I found in the tree-line....it was complete with a clear title,,,but it was acout rusted to the ground....still had CLASS though!

Ha! Glass the rest of it through old photos and lots of styrofoam!

No man, leave it. Whenever we see former glorys like that, we have the natural urge to save it from the crusher or from rusting out to the wind. But they're right; you would be so much in debt with that car, you would hit a wall, and you would sell it for 60% of the cost you put into it.

But, for those that have that serious sickness and fab skills that only magical welding pixies have, chop it, link it, bag it, throw in a carb'd 350, tube the front end, and make it a weekend driver. I always picture doing that to ANY car...

I have a project car from 1970, and for genuine or NOS parts for that year, is a challenge. Yours would be close to premature baldness.

The Fairlane sounds fun. After your current RBV, that is.

Good night, people.

Well Pete, while I like the idea of fixing that Fairlane, but it's in need of quite a bit as well. I'd just as soon take the dash out of it for my B2 build, and then go buy the Fairlane Ranchero that is sitting over the mountain at the used car lot.

I found a 60's ranchero the other day that would've looked dood on a 4wd Ranger frame.

Coincidentally, I found a 70's Manchero the other day that would've looked food on a 4wd Hanger name.

I like picking on you, Country. Perhaps I'm still bitter about the Aggies/Cowboys game. :thefinger:

:D

Have a great Sunday, y'all!
