Actually, that cardboard thing is a pretty good idea for helping to visualize what you want and could make a decent base for glassing I'd think.

I use cardboard to build a lot of my templates for parts. I assume if you were to wax the cardboard the rosin wouldn't stick to it and the fiberglass would pop right off.
