Well... I have made a sad decition today. With rising gas prices and the amount of driving I have to do with my current job, I have come to the conclusion that I will have to sell my truck. :scare:

My question is, what is your opinion of what I should/could charge for the truck?

The blue-book says: $2755 - $3255

Here's some facts...

1994 Ford Ranger XLT
4.0L V6 - approx. 197,000 miles (goes up daily)
4x4 (manual Warn Hubs - Less than 1 year old)
5-Speed Manual Transmission rebuilt about 5 years ago
Steel-Mesh Brake Lines
A/C unit 3.5 years old
Flowmaster II Exhaust
Approx 4"-6" suspension lift (I say approx becasue it was already installed when I bought the truck)
33x12.5 BFG T/A KOs - almost 3 years old, lots of tread left
Rancho R9000 Adjustable Shocks
Class III Trailer Hitch
Pro-Comp Light Bar (has been Rhino-Lined)
2-100W KC Daylighters
Upgraded Fog Lights
T-Rex Billet Grill
Sony CDX-GT710 Headunit (6 months old)
Sony 10-Disk CD player
MXT 2-Way 5x7 Speakers all around (1 month old)
MTX 10" Thunder5500 Sub in a bandpass box
Pioneer 800W Mono Amp

*Paint is not so good on the hood and roof (oxidized). As such it could use a paint job.

Thanks for your input...

Get a 4 banger 4x2. Same truck, 25+ MPG. They're not nearly as slow or weak as people make them out to be.

As for the value on yours, given the high mileage and paint, I'd start with an asking price of 3000-3200. It's a pretty nice looking truck, and if it's in great shape mechanically, you should be able to get 3K if you hold out long enough.

3K will buy you a pretty decent 4 cylinder ranger.

Although honestly, ask yourself if you need a truck.

If you don't, a small car is much more appropriate. You will never get better fuel mileage than that with a truck. Even a carbureted Datsun B210 got 26 MPG in the mid 70s.

I get a little over 30 MPG in a high mileage Prizm.

no more than 3k. its a damn nice truck its just that engine and tranny have close to 200k

if gas millage is what your looking fo,r get your motorcycle license and a motorcycle, on a newer bike you can get 60+ mpg which is why im in the market for one.

+1, except I'll be getting a slightly older bike.

Sure looks like a nice truck for only $3k.

3K!!!!!!! Christ, a truck that good looking wouldn't go for under 5k up here in Montreal. Good luck with the sell man. That's a sweet truck

PS: maybe if u sold the lift seperatly, you would interest more people. Someone older looks at this truck, he probably doesn't wan't it lifted...

I would have to say that truck would go for close to if not more than 4,000 here. When I was looking at my truck, I saw plenty of 93-97 4.0l 4x4 Rangers go for 4000 or more. But I don't really know what the milage was on all them either though. 200,000 miles is gettin' up there too.

Id check CL or other classifieds to see what similar trucks go for.

yep up here that would go for a decent amount you could get 4 pretty easily somebody offered me 6500 for mine last week i couldnt give her up cause she was my dads before he passed away so it has alot of sentimental value to me. if i wasnt broke id buy it

Gas Mileage

If your looking for mileage. I just sold a 93 Saturn SC2 DOHC 4 Banger with a 5 Speed, coupe in excellent mechanical condition. It was running 35-37 MPG. I sold it for 1000.00. It's just a thought.

If everything on it is running you shouldn't have a problem getting $3000 or better for a 4X4 in California. I'm assuming the demand is the same down there as it is up here in the Sacramento Valley. There are a lot of people into 4X4's up here. That oxidized paint, you can probably buff that out. My other vehicle is a 1995 Ranger. I have the same thing on mine. Since I will be selling mine at some point in the near, or not so near, future, I tried buffing out a small section on the roof, and it does buff out. You may want to check the paint over thoroughly. I noticed a few areas of clearcoat coming up where water collects due to the acidic nature of vegetation falling on the truck constantly, both leaves from the dense urban forest we have here, and that sap-like aerosol the Ponderosa Pines spray on everything in the summer.

A 4.0L in a Ranger isn't a very good combination for fuel economy. You need to figure out what kind of fuel economy is acceptable, and figure in the rising cost of gas into this equation, then go from there. I had to do a lot of driving for my job up till September. I have a 4.0L 2wd, and even though I was reimbursed for mileage, it still cost me because I didn't get to pocket the change left over after paying for the gas. Now I commute 60 miles a day (roundtrip), but I bought a 2007 2.3L Ranger in August. I'm getting an average of 28.6 in stop and go freeway traffic with the air conditioner on. All freeway driving ranges from 28-30. I do very little city only driving, but when I have, the worst was 23.5 when I got the truck, now it is around 25mpg in town.

Dang man, I'd post it for 4500 and let em talk you down to no less than 3500. Even with the miles you know there's a youngbuck like myself that doesn't know any better and wants a bad ass lookin truck. Ask 4500 and see what happens!

re-gear it to optimal fuel economy and keep it because you will end up with a payment or a vehicle that will need repairs. if you have to sell it start at 6k and work your way down. the average person cares about looks not mileage.
