My dad has a work truck that he needs to get fixed this weekend. Its an 01 3.0 with an auto trans. He says it won't start and its not getting any fuel pressure. He's getting a code for P0232. If you guys can please give me a list of things to check/replace it would be a huge help.

He said he doesn't hear the pump priming with the key on or off (but he's old and deaf so I can't take his word for it) and the inertia switch is not tripped.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Usually P0232 means Fuel Pump relay is bad.

P0232 - Fuel Pump Secondary (Feedback) Circuit High Voltage

P0232 code is set when computer detects voltage when fuel pump shouldn't be on

The fuel pump relay is controlled by the computer, when relay is "on" 12volts is sent to a splice, one wire goes to inertia switch/fuel pump, fuel pump comes on.
The other wire goes to the computer so it can monitor fuel pump voltage.
This monitoring sets P0232

So could be a short in the relay that is passing a little voltage while relay is off, any voltage would be "high" voltage because it should be 0 volts.

Fuel pump relay is in the Power Box in the engine compartment, it should be labelled.

Replacement relay is under $20.

If you have an OBD II scanner you can see what the voltage is on the Monitor(P0232) wire with key on engine off, look for FP VOLTAGE FEEDBACK

If you don't have a reader, turn off key, pull out FP Relay and use a meter to test for 12v on one of the connections in the relay socket.
Only 1 connection should have 12volts, that comes from the Fuel Pump fuse, and it has power 24/7.
If any other connection shows voltage then there is a short in the wiring which is causing P0232.
If there is only 1 with voltage FP Relay is the problem

Make sure to unhook the negative battery cable for 5 minutes to reboot computer, if you don't have a scanner to reboot it.

Thanks. I had a little print out of the code problems and possible solutions and it seemed to say pretty much the same thing in a much more complicated manner. Thanks for simplifying.

It turned out to be a bad relay. It was allowing the pump to run 24/7 which ended up ending the already struggling pump's life.

New relay and new pump and she purred like a kitten.
