If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
I just got called an asshole by the parent of one of my daughter's friends because I chewed her out (my daughter) and grounded her for being 5 min late.

Well ..... I am an Asshole but that is besides the point .... My daughter was 5 min late getting home ...... she is chronically late ...... if she was my employee I would fire her for her chronic tardiness...... What pissed me off is this woman is a flake ....... she is one of those that thinks kids have too many rules already so why get upset over 5 min......... its not the 5 min I am mad about ..... it is the chronic lateness .......... I can't not let her go play with this friend because neither one of them have alot of friends to play with........ but it she is supposed to be home at 5 because we eat at 5:30 and she needs to feed the cats at 5......

i hear you on this one i hate constant tardiness. its always a lame excuse to. but you know if you know you go to be home then then make sure you leave yourself enough time to get home.

that is the moment in time you go..Yes, yes i am. And that is MR. ASSHOLE to you!

I said something along those lines .....

"yeah, I am an Asshole ..... whats that got to do with her being late?"

Well, what if she's right?

Just kidding.

As a parent of Teens I feel your Pain, and I never rule on how other people enforce rules on their kids. She is out of line and needs to keep her Bitch Mouth shut.

in my family i was rasied with military rules if you cant make it home on time dont come home or if their is an accident like truck broke down or got a flat tire then that would be a good excuse to be late but even still i was still given a time to be home depending on where i was in location to the house. and im 20 now and live with my dad and i still have a cirufew and the old rules still apply to his house and i am home early everytime for example i have to be home at 11 and i am home at 1040 if not earlier to keep the peace i had to do wall sits when i was late and to keep that from happening again i home as early as possible. and i think that is what you call good parenting on your part! i look at it like this if you let them get away with small stuff like what happend to you then they will try something bigger then bigger to the point where they control you and you dont control them that is why some many kids are as spoiled and punks that think they know all and can do whatever they want no matter who tells them other wise

Tardiness really pisses me off. there's no excuse for it, it's also bad manners. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one with the same opinion.

It hasn't been too long ago I was told I was a cruel father for disciplining my 2 1/2 yr old for interupting mine and another adult mans conversation with her in the buggy at wal mart... I told her 2 times to be polite and curtious that adults are talking, s you need to wait until we are done unless it is an emergency, it was not an emergency......

for example i have to be home at 11 and i am home at 1040 if not earlier to keep the peace
Shouldn't that be 2240 :D

To the OP, don't let ANYONE raise your kids for you. You did the right thing in my opinion. I was pretty strict with my kids, they are well behaved and understand that we are a society of rules.

I don't let anybody raise them..... not even the school ...... I go rounds with the Principal. She lost her snow boots so I told her she would just have stand on the Wall (thats where the kids without appropriate snow gear stand during recess) all winter because I wasn't buying her new ones......... so the school bought her new snow boots ....... I was livid ..... I actually was yelling while I was in his office ...... "how the hell is she going to learn to take care of her shit when you just buy her new shit when she loses her shit?!?!....... then 1 day she forgot to put her Tennis shoes in her back pack (they are supposed to take off the snow boots before going back to class) the school called to tell me this ....... I said so, either keep her inside or make her go around barefoot because I have 2 other kids her and my wife has the car ....... so they loaned her a pair of shoes ........

I had a LT that once told me if I wasn't 10min early I was 15 min late... and that was a standing order ...... everybody geared up for guard mount 10 min early...... or we got an extra hour for PT.

:icon_rofl:

I had a shop teacher tell the whole class that when some kid called him one. Then he elaborated and said that it's "Because I'm the biggest ASSHOLE you will ever meet."

I loved that shop class...

But yea, I wouldn't worry about what someone else tells you in that case. My parents made rules and enforced them. I didn't always like it as a kid, but now that I'm older, I can understand it and I thank them for it. I've seen too many kids my age that their parents always wanted to be their kids "friend" and that usually turns out quite badly. The kid turns out to be a spoiled brat that is totally uncontrollable and have no respect for anyone (especially women). That sort of attitude pisses me off like no other....

My high school couldn't wait to get rid of me, I did my best my senior year to give everyone there ulcers. That touchy-feely-everyone-wins crap made me want to puke.

I could deff threadjack with stories about that... lol

If you get pissy some times and fed up does not make you a bad parent. If you send your child unprepared to be on time in the real world it does.Sometimes we can be there friend and father. Sometimes they make us choose and we have to choose father.

I would rather she hates me now and thanks me later than loves me now and hates me later......... funny ....... I remember my Sergeant telling me the same thing.
