Howdy ya'll! I have driving Rangers my whole life but have never really worked on beefing them up, just repair and maintenance. Can Some one here help with a little guidance in making my new (to me) 4x4 better off road? The first thing on my list is replacing the rear leaf springs, my bushing and almost gone. I was wondering if I should get some if anyone can tell me the difference between them. 4/1, 3/1, 2/1, what does spring over axle mean? Right now i'm feeling lost.... help!?

Welcome. Spring over and spring under refers to how the spring and axle are mounted to each other. On most stock rangers, the leaf spring sits on top of the axle. That is spring over. On many Explorers, the spring hangs below the axle. That is spring under.

In addition to posting your questions in the proper sections of the forum, you can navigate to the "How To Tech" section of this website using the tab near the top of the page. There are some great articles there that will help you learn about almost any part of these trucks and some great options for modifying them .

Welcome! The 4/1, 3/1, etc refers to the number of leafs in a pack, 4 leafs, one main or 4 leafs, one overload depending on who you talk to.
