Does anyone have a rear tow hook for sale and where would the rear tow hook install onto. I have seen online a 2002 ford ranger fx4 off road here on therangerstation the article explained the ranger fx4 off road models through the years with a tow hitch installed that had the rear tow hook but it says on google that if a rear tow hitch was installed at the factory it got no rear tow hook ??

Im 35 years old with mild autism - thank you for your help.

I honestly don't know the details of what options came on that truck. But... the rear tow hook would have heen bolted to the frame rails, probably usung some of the holes used for the trailer hitch. So, if you have the hitch, there was no good place to put the hook. If you want a good, safe rear tow point, I would recommend something like this. This one is from Harbor Freight. But you will find many brands and designs available.

My 2002 FX4 came with a rear tow hook but had to remove it to install a receiver. I sold the rear tow hook.

I just install a loop in the receiver and put a bolt through it if I need to attach a strap to it. It has worked for 25 years.

Don't have a FX4, so don't know what they came with. If I hadn't already V8 swapped my 99 I'd probably be on the hunt for an all manual LII, but that's discussion for another time and place.

I for one would rather have the receiver hitch than a tow hook any day of the week. I could be wrong, but I see it as being a stronger attach point and it's definitely more versitle. If I needed to pull from the rear I'd do like these guys mentioned and use a tow point that installs in the receiver. If I'll finish wiring the control box I've got a hitch mounted 5K lb winch that in can attach to the receiver as needed and actually have one of those tow points somewhere to use with it.

For that matter, I'd just attach the cable/rope/chain straight to the hitch receiver if a tow point wasn't available. It's sturdier than the bumper and attaches to both frame rails, so bumper or a frame mounted hook IMO.
