Have had my 86 ranger 2.9 for about 5 months now, Ive fixed all but a few problems that I bought it with except for one.

What looks to be the high pressure fuel pump on the drivers side framerail leaks quite a bit when started and ran for a few minutes; enough to almost stall the motor when coolant is cold. I have looked at the pump, and it leaks at the fuel line quick connect, right before it goes into the fuel pump. I dont think the high pressure pump is bad, because I can hear it self prime for 2-3 seconds every time. I would assume there is a rubber O-ring inside of the quick connect, correct? How would I fix this?

Also, food for thought. The reason why i think it's a leaking o-ring, is because when I get to school, 20 miles away, the truck will sit for 5 hours, and their won't be any fuel on the ground, nor will it leak once started.. :icon_confused:

Sorry for the long post, wanted to give as much info as I could.

Brian.

Well, the shop i took the truck to today called back and said it's the high pressure fuel pump on the rail that is leaking.. which I assumed they would say since it's the most expensive part that might be bad... wtf

if it's the pump than wouldnt it leak fuel all the time when under pressure and not the O-ring??

if it's the pump than wouldnt it leak fuel all the time when under pressure and not the O-ring??

not if its not running the low pressure in-tank pump is not pumping fuel up the the high pressure pump

thought the high pressure pump is always on when ignition is on.... no??

Anyways got it fixed. night raider is back on the road.
