Shouldn't get an error code??
Gas gauge won't work, but no error code, lol
There are only 2 "fuel" electrical error codes:
87 (O) Fuel pump circuit fault
96 (O) Fuel pump monitor circuit shows no power
The Computer operates the Fuel Pump(FP) relay(green base relay in engine bay)
When you turn on the key the EEC relay sends 12v to the FP Relays coil, it goes thru the coil and to Computer's pin 22, computer grounds pin 22 to activate FP......AFTER "seeing" the 12volts first
If it doesn't see the 12v then code 87 is set
When computer closes FP Relay 12volts is sent to Inertia switch in the cab, then the 12v is sent OUT to fuel pump(s)
This 12v also goes to pin 8 on the computer, so it "knows" the FP Relay closed and 12volts was sent to fuel pump(s)
If computer doesn't see 12v on pin 8 then code 96
So unless you by-passed the whole circuit, not a good idea, there should be no codes just because you disconnected one of the pumps, or disconnected both pumps, computer just wants to see the 12volts on pin 8 when FP relay is closed
The 12volt wire from inertia switch is shared by BOTH pumps, so computer doesn't know how many pumps there are, it only knows if FP Relay is sending 12volt
95 (O) Fuel pump: open, bad ground or always on
You would get this code if pin 8 showed 12v all the time
Sender on a 1990 fuel pump assembly uses different OHMs than 1987 Gauge needs, opposite in fact, empty is full and full is empty
