My credo
I used to do nothing before 6:30 am, now it takes all day.
Hello from codger. I hope everyone is staying safe, if not sane. I've got a 2002 Ranger XLT, extended cab, 2dr, 4L, 4x4, AT. The charging system quit charging, so I did what most do and changed the alternator. That has always worked for me in the past with my other vehicles, but not this time. So, I had to start digging deeper. When checking the yellow/white wire from the voltage regulator to the positive battery cable, I got no continuity. According to my Haynes manual schematic, there is a 15amp fuse in this leg and I can't find one. I've checked the lists for the power distribution box and the fuse panel in the cab and don't see it listed. Is it listed as something I don't recognize? Is it located someplace else and I'm just not seeing it? Could it actually be a second fuse link and not a fuse? I can see what I believe to be the fuse link in a wire harness next to the battery. Right next to this is what appears to be another, smaller diameter fuse link, in the same wire harness. Is this it? I really don't want to cut the wiring harness apart if I don't have to.
