Hey guys I just joined and was looking for some help. I'm currently looking at swapping out my 2.3 for a 5.0 in my 93 2wd ranger xlt and i was wondering if anyone had some tips. I've never done an engine swap before but i do have the donor engine from a 94 f-150. I'm 17 so really don't know all that much when it comes to swaps. i know i do need a new transmission and mounting brackets. I have a M5OD-R2 transmission picked out to go in it.

Do you have the rest of the F150? Your gonna need the PCM (computer) and at least part of the wiring.

Conventional wisdom says the Explorer FEAD (front end accessory drive) fits better, but what you have should be workable.

What Noob said is all true. You need the engine wiring harness and PCM for the 5.0l. I think there are a couple engine mount possibilities. Probably meed a different radiator to get enough cooling. And the alternator, PS pump, AC compressor and belt drive stuff fits better if you get the mounting brackets from an Explorer because they keep all that stuff closer to the block and help everything fit in the short Ranger engine bay easier. Still might have to push the radiator forward a couple inches.

I recommend that you spend a couple hours reading all the 302/5.0l V-8 swap articles linked on this page.
