Clutch Master Cylinder went out in my 94 3.0 4x4.

Does the Transmission need to be pulled for the throwout bearing?

I believe so.

I am gunna be screwed cause I am headed to San Diego (emergency) on Monday night and need a Mechanic reference to do the work.

I had a shop tell me they could do it and now they are giving me the run around and say they it will take 1.5 days to complete???

Any help is appreciated!!!

Yes, the transmission needs to be dropped to get at the throw out bearing.

The same thing for the slave cylinder and if the clutch needs changed. If you have the money, it might be worth your while to get them all taken care of while the transmission is dropped. There is also a pilot bearing in there as well.

Isn't the master cylinder behind the firewall?

Throw out bearing is part of the slave cylinder and is inside the transmission housing.

You don't need to touch throw out bearing if master cylinder is the problem, I believe.

Good point on the master cylinder. Why does the garage want to change the throw out bearing? Is it making a noise?

I can't shift between gears. Every gear works.

Car sat for 2 years. Then got it up and running. It made it 800 miles and then I have this problem.

So either air got in the line or the slave cylinder has a bad seal.

I'm not 100% sure which but I'd rather change it and do it for piece of mind.

It's better to narrow down the issue before throwing parts at it. I would look at making sure there isn't any air in the line first.
