Help Brakes slowly engaging on their own. 1994 Ford Ranger Xlt 4.0 2wd

The only reason I'm not suspecting the calipers is because it is both sides. I admit that this is a very common symptom of a caliper just starting to get stuck. It's not quite as common for it to be both sides.

I've just had experience with it. Both mine died at the same time (although it sat for 2-3 years.) With the tranny fluid in the vacuum system, there still might be some bowing and scraping involved.:icon_thumby:

Ah lol still havnt gotton around to adjusting it. I guess i dont really drive too far around here but I will in the next day or so. Ill test it and let you know if it fixed it. also would a damaged booster cause the symptoms I describe? Wouldnt I just have no power brakes? They still work even when they are grabbing on the rotors. I just have no power cuz the brakes are squeezing.

A damaged booster can cause a whole gamut of symptoms, from no power brakes on through to brakes applying themselves and a CEL.

Either way, if you have trans fluid in the booster, you should probably get a new one.

I havnt gotton around to trying to adjust it yet but i would like to note that now it is getting worse. the time before its completely undrivable is shorter. i can only drive like 5 miles now. and its pretty much locked up. I had to wait 4 hours at my buddies b4 the pressure was released from the wheels.

would the booster cause this??????????????????? I still have regular brakes just like normal up until it starts to build pressure up.

also Im unsure if tranny fluid got into the booster but there was a little in the vaccuum line. not alot.

if the booster had fluid in it would it push on the master cylinder slowly. when its doing it i cannot pull up on the pedal to unstick them. i believe its in the lines. coming from the master cylinder not letting the pressure release. but im not 100 percent

Try driving until they get tight. crack the bleeders and see if there is pressure. that will tell you if its hydraulic or mechanical.

If its hydraulic, bleed the brakes. drive again until they get tight. crack the lines at the master. if theres a lot of pressure then its the master or booster. if theres no pressure then its the rubber lines collapsing.

You can also try driving until they get tight and unbolt the master from the booster. if they loosen up its the booster pushing on the master.

I just changed both calipers and put a new master cylinder in. the old one wouldnt take fluid from the resevoir. I bought a new one with a warranty and that sems to have fixed it. i cant beeelieve my luck . the one in their before was brand new too. i probably didnt need calipers but i did it anyway. so now i have darn near all brand new brakes. im putting shoes on the back todaaay too. and gonna put new cylinders in too. so it was a bad master cylinder... lol
