Help a rookie out

how did u get the camber bushing out?

Im having the same problem with my tires sticking out.

I have gone to get it alig and they said i need drop brackets to bring the camber back to spec.

Remove the snap ring. I used a flat tip screwdriver to pry up the bushing while wiggling the spindle by grapping the lower ball joint.
This is not a dd so I have time to figure this out. My trip to the shop cost me $400+ and all I got was tie rods. I adjusted toe in/out this past weekend. Drives nice especially when hitting a dip in the road. The back was wider by 1 inch. Now have a differnece of 1/4" between front and back. good luck

You guys have no idea how much I just learned about suspensions just by reading this thread. Im getting ready to do a lift on mine and now I know what to look for if I have steering issues.

hows the truck going??

Thanks for asking. Nothing has changed since the last post. I did purchase an inexpensive caster/camber tool online and have been meaning to use it. Have to make a slight mod to it. The sidewalls of the tires stick out to far. When you rest the tool on the face of the rims it contacts the tire. Just need to add several inches to the extension. I believe the caster is on the negative side, and I would like to use the bushings again. I'll post more later.

The son got his permit and is driving now. :fie:

Good deal. :yahoo: The whole thing fell into place when I corrected the camber/toe in by adjusting the rods. I could have saved several hundred $$$ if I had followed the steps I read someplace that said to correct the toe in/out first. Oh well live and learn. So cool when the light came on.

Funny thing, my son saw the front end apart so many times he thought it would never be fixed.

Start a new thread with your project. :icon_hornsup:

up to 97 these trucks are supposed to have zero toe not a quarter inch.

and you can use a large carpenters square to check camber on flat ground

its past time for me to check mine, i've been pretty hard on it since the 4.0 swap and rear locker install

Unless the steering linkage sits flat when on level ground, a little bit of toe-in may be better than 0. The tires will toe-out some when the truck is loaded and the linkage is up at an angle.

Same here, my girlfriend is always telling me when am I going to fix it. She has no idea that I had the truck together the day before, came across another problem and took it apart the vary same day before she even noticed.:no2:
