Help a rookie out

Are these the correct points to measure???? The spacers are still in the springs, just making sure I'm understanding the details.

BTW, thanks for the help, your eddukating me on suspensions.

those measurements shown, should give you an idea how much it was lifted. and to measure the sag in the spring...... measure the spring from top of spring mount to bottom of spring mount.... then..... lift the front of the truck evenly until the wheel looks straight..... then...... measure the same points again. the difference should be around the height for the amount of spacers you will need. but make sure you get those "spring boosters" out of there first.

That's just a point of reference for dialing in the suspension's ride height (looks like they missed it by about ¾" too, although it's not overly critical, just requires using camber bushings with some offset).

The measurement canyoncritter is looking for will determine how much longer your lift brackets are vs. the stock ones (you could also measure the length of the drop plate bracket pointed out earlier for an accurate measurement, too).

Junkie, pillen and critter, your info is starting to sink in. I have plans of working on this over the weekend and will report measurements and some pics.

Thanks for staying with me on this.

No problem, we're always here to help :icon_thumby:

junkie.....with the spacers removed things have changed. From the pivot axis it has dropped from 15 1/2" to 14 1/8" .......and from the wheel hub center line it increased from 15" to 15 1/2".....and the tires are back to negative camber. Go figure.

pillen.....I will measure spring sag.......soon....    ahhhh, here I sit in the garage typing this with some suds........life is goooooood........

............have a great memorial weekend and thanks.......fly your flag.......the gang oversea's will appreciate................................................

wait for him to do something stupid, then just punish him real hard, and take away the truck.... then say you didnt want it to sit and rot, so you have to drive it>>>>>:taunt:

Sounds like these should fix you right up :icon_thumby:

sounds like you have a 4inch drop bracket/plate lift kit.I'm aware of both BDS and trailmaster that make a 4inch drop plate lift kit. Could be etheir brand.

the factory piviot bracket is aprx 7 1/8 from frame rail to the center of the axle piviot bolt hole. And your bracket is 11ish...

Since you blew some loot allready, the spacers junkie put up pic's of would be your best bet with out having to spend a anouter chunk.

do you know what kind of camber bushing you have? if you have the adjustable ones or the fixed, and if you have a fixed what size they are?

pic below is where to find the camber bushing

and this of the camber bushing still in the beam end

here a few "fixed bushings" as you can see they are diffrent sizes/offsets.

usually they will have what degree they are stamped in to the tops of them.

here is a pic of a adjustable one.its a 2 piece bushing, and you can twist them around to diffrent o's/offsets.

Just a word of advice for the future, make sure you keep a bumpstop on the driver side so the diff chunk dose not get a hole punched in it from the drop plate.or maybe replace it in the future with a drop bracket.

Do a search on the board here "drop plate" and Im sure more than enuff info will come up.

I went to check the diff and found a hole that looks like got punched through by the bracket. The bumpstops must have been put in when that was found. There is a piece of aluminum covering the hole and is covered pretty good with lots of dirt and grim. Geezzz, now what?

Doh'!... already too late. That bites :(

You may be able to have the hole welded up if there are no cracks radiating from around the hole (a TIG machine would be needed). I also heard at least once someone used JB Weld to plug the hole, although I couldn't say how well that would hold up. The other option is of course replacing the diff housing with another one from a junkyard (just make sure the ratio matches).
