Hi everyone. Im excited to be part of the community as I’m in the market for a ranger and plan on making it last me a very long time. I would actually like a 2000 Mazda (ranger) B4000 4.0 V6 OHV. Or atleast I believe that’s a solid choice since I very much want a 4x4. I was really hoping that yall could tell me if this particular engine will last and equally as important, will it be expensive when repairs are needed?

I had 485,000 on my 1st 4.0 before I pulled it. (174,000 was before I got it.) It still ran well was just tired. I'm hoping for another 10 years on this one.

2000 may still have the problematic front vacuum hubs, but I think that's a relatively easy fix. (New bearing assembly and CV axle from 01+. Both are wear items anyway.) They don't lend themselves well to large lift but with the wheel well shape it doesn't take much to run fairly large tires anyway.

By far the biggest issue you'll have with that model is previous owner(s) neglect/abuse. Especially if you're looking for a manual transmission.
