Good God, IT WORKED!!! I can't tell you how happy I am I found this repair. My Explorer has 322,000 miles on it and we expect to have problems. The dealer, I am sure, would have wanted a wheel barrel full of money to remove the dash and replace the entire assembly. 2 hours of my time and a bit of trial and error and we now have the adjustment back (it was stuck on full heat).
