I just got the 302 set in the engine bay of my 92. I can see that I have lots of room for the headers(Headmen conversion set) on the passanger side, but it looks awfully close to the power steering shaft on the driver's side.

Now the motor isn't aligned yet and the headers aren't bolted down yet, but how close is your guy's header to the shaft? Some pics would be extremely nice.:icon_thumby:

Granted mines a 351W, but here is a pic of the steering shaft clearance.

Those are Total Performance headers.

i like the way those fit!
collector pointed straight down?

My driver's side Tri-y's have the exact same fit as far as the steering shaft.

So I assume that the dust boot has to go?

look for a drivers side cast ehaust manifold from a v8 explorer, front two cylinders go up instead of down, it was a perfect fit on my swap. Plus they are cheap...got mine on Ebaymotors for $35.

it would hit my d-shaft for the front pig....

Heres my Gen 1. Hedmans and a 302........

They are not bolted down yet, so there is more room there than it looks. I have lots of room(even for changing plugs). Get the engine lined up and bolted down and it will look different.......

And the heat from the header won't hurt the steering shaft or it's components?

No. I've had no problems so far.

OK?! You asked!

I had to be different (awkward may be a better word), I used Patriot H8430's (no longer in their catalog - but, they have a comparable substitute - H8433's). The H8430's are very similar to Hedman's 88400's. Either would probably have worked and made me happy. The Patriots were thermal coated prior to final installation.

Here is why engine placement is soooo important! If you get your placement correct, you won't have to reinforce your frame the way I had to!

I didn't like this, so I relocated the RABS solenoid further back on the frame.

But, I really like this - being able to get to the starter, and no R-side suspension concerns as with the Hedman 89500's (their "swap" header!).

I custom fabbed a 2-1/2" single exhaust system from the collectors to the tailpipe. I have pics of that too, but don't want to :threadjacked: hijack your thread.
