Header clearance?'s

I'll take some pics. Mine are a tight fit and yes I cut up and modified a brand new set of headers to avoid frame and steering issues. They are on a 351 as well but no issues with heat other than the passenger side floor where I have heard some complaints of warm feet.

Have'nt seen you around in awhile, everything going good on your truck?

I custom fabbed a 2-1/2" single exhaust system from the collectors to the tailpipe. I have pics of that too, but don't want to :threadjacked: hijack your thread.

No, jack this thread all you want, I would like to see your pics. This is new stuff for my brother and I, those pics you PM'ed me helped out a lot:icon_thumby:. Show me what you got!!!:icon_bounceblue::icon_bounceblue:

Consider Yourself Highjacked

2-1/2" throughout and everything is flanged. Pull the bolts and remove whatever I want removed. I wanted to follow the original systems design, except for the T-pipe exiting out the rear, instead of the side. Nothing super HI-PO, just practical and gotta' flow better than the 2" OEM system in the donor Econoline. And, the big RV muffler keeps it quiet - sleeps nicely - no advertising.

Note: The "Imageshack" thumbnails may be slow to open, but they all opened for me.

L-SIDE CROSSOVER to Y-PIPE, MUFFLER SIZE (!) PERSPECTIVE

OEM STYLE HANGER (between CAT and MUFFLER) I ground off the hot rivets holding the hanger bracket to the frame, and flipped it around toward the back of the vehicle. It was pointed toward the front. Put it right where I needed it. Then welded the hangers onto the tubing (not pictured here - see muffler below, or cat & flex above).

Wow, thats some pretty good skills wade! I was thinking of going with true duals from a 302 f-150 and chop and weld where necessary, or order 2 single exhaust systems for the ranger and have them run side by side all the way out the passanger side.

Either way, I am doing true duals, I just need to figure out how since the gas tank takes up the driver's side.

Take the tank out and put in a fuel cell. Or you could run both pipes down the pass side then cross over behind the axle. just my .02

I'm keeping the tank, I kinda like it.:icon_thumby:

Yeah, I was going to do what you said, just have the 2 run side by side all the way down past the axle and either out the pass. side or the duals out the back.

If I had more time and patience, I would've run stacks, but putting a v-8 into this is hard enough, especially with those stupid conversion motor mounts.

.

This is how I ran mine, except I built an "equalizer chamber" and installed it between the collectors and mufflers. The chamber is a section of 4" dia. x 12" long pipe. This smooths out the sound. The mufflers are turbos stood on end, side by side.

It's the first time I ever welded! You can train me any day! I'm definitely a novice. I went to the local mafia muffler shop and garnered some of their scrap to practice on. And, when I thought I was ready... created Frankenstein - brought Lazarus back to life!:woot:

That's the joy of "doing" (or getting done by) a V8 conversion. Whatever you want - make yourself happy! Personally, I'm convinced that a stock 5.0L with a well thought out single exhaust will perform adequately to my desires. My truck - my money - my wants - me, myself, and I. But, "we" are more than happy to collaborate with our other psycho conversionists.:icon_twisted: We've gotta' be nuts - NO! That's the guy's that are puttin' 450HP+ into a Ranger. That's nuts! They must own stock in TreadQuarters - Goodyear - Hoosier's. A 450HP+ Ranger - a pothole into which one pours money! And, the pothole never gets any smaller.

Yeah, I'm a dual fan. My brother has a Duramax with a 4" single cat-back on there and it sounds like a jet!!!! I love it.

But in my little crazy mind, true duals is something that I think will "complete" the Ranger.

maybe this might help with the dual exhaust thots...this is how i did my F150, figuring set up kinda the same just a lil bigger, thats with full length headers, cats, and super 44s...o ya and 2 1/4 pipe.

Two ideas:

Earlier HP Exhaust Headers from a Mustang - Cast Iron Manifolds but they look like headers with supports between the pipes.

L&L Engineering, great Shorty header, fit easily with only minot cutting on the passenger side frame. Shorty yes but they allow bending of the exhaust pipe around the clutch setup.

Tri-Y's for a 65-66 Shelby Mustang. Bought mine used off ebay. Don't know who made em.:icon_confused:

Is yours a 2WD or 4WD? No mods to install these? I like the look of a tri-Y myself and this would be great if it cleared with no mods.
