I'm just curious if anyone has done it before and what their results were. I'm not looking for 500hp or anything, in fact I would be content with starting out around 300hp and increasing it as I go. I just sent my 91 roller block over to the machine shop and he gave me a good deal on a 331 stroker kit. I originally was not going to stroke it but he was able to locate a stroker kit for not much more than it would have cost me to do an all forged 306. Anyway, I got a set of GT40 heads, intake, and throttle body off of a 1996 Explorer all for $75, so I have decided to go ahead and try it out. My machinist said that it will definately be the bottleneck of the entire setup but that it will still be a huge improvement compared to what it was before and it will give me room for improvement later if I feel the need for more HP.

They were used on the 1st gen Lightning (with a 351), so they should work okay. Slightly better than E7 heads.

We put a set of GT40's on a 392 stroker with a F-cam and a Lightning intake with long tubes and a dyno tune and made 384hp at the tires in a 90 coupe Mustang. The trans is a C4 with a 3k converter and 4:10 gears in the rear. He could have made more HP but built all of this on a real tight budget. I would think that they will make good HP on a 331ci also. :icon_thumby:

Nice, I will be porting and polishing the intake and heads, nothing really serious, just a gasket match. I already have the long tubes on the car. By the way, this engine setup isn't going into a ranger either(although I wish I had the money to do that too). It's going in my 1989 Saleen Mustang. Maybe I should start a build thread, I guess Jim wouldn't care.

I just picked up a set of gt-40s my self, and planning to put them on the 347 im buidling, im hoping they do alright, i just cant spend 1000+ on some better heads right now, and still put the motor in the truck lol... well see how they fair.

They are alright wil lbe the limiting factor, Edelbrock has some new E-series heads out that are under 1g with Everything that I will be putting on my Forged 306 that I will be puttin in the ranger, but we are at least a year away from that:)

Have had ton's of stangs and several builds of the 5.0 before I switched to the Modular world:)

I put down 340rwhp through a set at one point in time iwth a TMoss Ported GT40 INtake manifold so it's possible, but they fall off in the upper RPMS.

Im sure they will be a bottle neck, but im gonna do with unless i find a killer deal on a better set of heads....

The heads i bought these from, turns out they were lasted used in a V8 ranger, 306, that made 460 on the flywheel, this isnt coming from the guy i bought them from, but from a friend of mine who knows the previous owner... if that is true, and i match the #'s with my 347, i will have more then enough hp in a ranger for what i am doing... i hope lol....
