Three ?'s about GT40 heads

Burned up the sunlight gettin her all clean and shiny. The windows are actually clear now! I'll check it out tommorow, gotta yank the stereo out of the Mazda so I might as well check the Vic while I'm out there.

Any way at all to see if there will be interference without finding out the hard way?

Yes, exactly. They're good for bottomend torque, but nothing else.

I had these on my 86 GT, and they certainly ran out of air quick. I've always known them as the swirl heads rather than the casting number. I had to shift at around 4700 rpm (stock tach). With my current combo, it pulls all the way to the rev limiter - especially from 3,000 rpm and up.

Well guys, I turned the Mazda into money so tommorow I will have the rest fo the suuplies I need to get the Vic running!

I still need to hash out this interference debate tho, I'd hate to toss them on and have a catastrophe.

I know people dog on the E6's, but really they move my truck fairly well. As mentioned off idle torque is great, and it snaps to attention when the secondaries open up too.

It might start to peter out between 4-5k, but I am usually backing out of it then anyway.

But that said I have only been around two 302's, one pushrod and one OHC. Compared to that... yeah it is a wallowing pig. But then, so is the rest of the truck.

IMO I would just find another set of E6's and go if you need heads (provided you still have a good shortblock) to have something to drive. Since room is a non-issue in that car if you want to hot rod it, I would skip the 5.0 for a 5.8 and go to town building that.

Where did you see an OHC 302?

Also, I really liked my 86 GT. It was pretty quick for what it was. It was an AOD car from the factory with the 3.27 differential option. I did an AOD to T5 conversion, and it was pretty impressive after that. I never ran it down the track, but I beat my buddies truck that had ran a 15.02 1/4 mile the weekend before. So based off that information, it was probably a high 14 second car with E6's.

^ I LIKE that right there! I've been thinkin bout a 5 spd swap, wont be soon tho. Also to 85_ Ranger, I can't afford to put a 351 in it right now, but I want to later.

My friend brought up the idea that I might have dish pistons, which presumeabley would cut down the chances of interference. It was a bitch getting the upper intake off and daylight was burning, also discharging the AC system freaked us out because we didnt know WHEN it was gonna go. I think I had a fabricated war flashback when it went off.

Tommorow we gotta screw with the fuel lines and get the old heads off. Bought how much new head hold cost? More good news, the throttle body from that HO upper intake is a bit bigger so I'm gonna pop it on the Vic.

My brother has an '11 GT Premium. Brembo brakes (with summer only tires), 6spd, 3.73's... it gets with the program pretty quick. It would rip my little rig inside out. :shok:

Mine has a C5 and 3.73's with smaller tires, so that probably helps wake it up taking off.

I don't think there is a "might" If you have the S on the corners of the head you have flattops. Dish combined with the bigger chambers would really lower compression.

Oh, OK. That makes sense.

Also Blue, I got my TTY Head Bolts from Ebay from a Chevy shop for about 35 dollars. Cool as hell guy, I'll try and find him again and post a link.
