Grille differences

Has anyone compiled a guide for grille differences & compatibility?
I'm looking for a new grille for my 94 XL Sport.

for 93-94 There's two different options listed on LMC

Are they interchangable?I don't want any chrome, but with the two examples, the upper molding appears to be different lengths...

Alternatively, would a 95-97 grille swap in?

the header panel appears to be the same from 93-97, as well as the headlight

Thoughts?

iirc, the opening is the same for all the years you have listed, so either should fit. Some of them have chrome trim and some are all painted. Rockauto has similar choices.

Not sure if you want to maintain the original looks, but #2 is on my Splash. IMO it is the sportier looking one and would go well with yours.

Theoretically any 93-97 grill should work in any 93-97. Ford probably changed the appearance slightly when they did the facelift in 95 which was the OBD2 electronics and redesigned interior.

I like #2, but i also need the side moldings, but i can't seem to find those in black.
LMC doesn't have them at all.

I'll just go with the 95 grille, since all 3 pieces are available.

You can easily peel that VMD phony chrome off… Lightly sand the base plastic with 320 grit, use adhesion promoter, and rattlecan color of choice. That’s how I’ll fix the cracked grilles we have for the 94 and 97 rcsb projects. Going to stick with the purple theme on the 94, red on the 97, but modern pearls with similar candy midcoats over heavy glitter for both grille inserts.

Too bad we can’t easily find aluminum replacements… Plastics should -NEVER- try to do a job more properly handled by metal.

my concern was getting one where the eyebrows were also available, but mine ended up being fine.
it's actually the header panel that's broken

That being said, i ended up going with the Splash grille, for now.

There is also a 1994 XLT 4x4 grill... It's identical to the "Models Without Attached Upper Molding 1993-1994 Ranger" except that the grill part itself is also chromed plastic like the upper parts. 1994 was the one & only year this version was made (and only on 4x4). I'd be surprised if there's an aftermarket replica of the chromed grill part though (upper molding is same chromed pieces as the others).
