As I am just driving the 2.3 in my 88 seems to spuder a little. then all of a sudden its like I have no power. I was in 4th. Down to 3rd, nothing. Down to 2nd, nothing.. Pull off to side of the road push in the clutch and she cuts off.

I just got her today and am gonna tare into her tomorrow but I was trying to get some advice before I get balls deep in her. She did it twice more. Wasn't always in fourth when it happened. And twice, she seemed to start to do it, she'd backfire and gain power back. I got some ideas but wanted to hear your word.

Thanks,
Costa

Also after I'd let her sit a min she'd turn back over. Not till she sat a good min

real low on gas?

Yes, fuel filter for $10 would be my first stop.

Also check gas cap, fuel tank can build up enough negative pressure to prevent pump from supplying enough fuel.
Drive with gas cap loose for a few days.

Then rent or get a Fuel pressure tester and test it and fuel pressure regulator.

On the 2.3l the ICM(ignition control module) can be a trouble spot, causing loss of spark when heated up, these can be tested

Could be fuel pump my bronco two did that for awhile, it would kinda crap out replaced fuel filter, would be fine for awhile, put new filter in would be fine. Drove to work and came out and nutin. Replaced a few thing to make sure I was gettin fire, and it ended up being the pump. Just my experiance, when my cat was plug if I remeber right I think it would idle alright it just didnt have any power. Well good luck

I'm to slow.

These guys got all the good ideas already.

The only thing I can add is, carry a can of starting fluid with you.

When it dies spray it into the intake to see if it starts.

When a fuel filter gets clogged to the critical level it goes from no noticeable symptoms to
can't make it move out of a parking spot in just a few miles.
