It should be noted that not all camera systems are overly invasive. Flock and some of the others collect and collate data and others like Platesmart only takes a high speed picture of the rear of the vehicle and the only time a notification goes to the police from it is when a plate with a BOLO of some type is on it. It also has a credentialed search feature but the only information in the system is the plate and whatever is visible in the picture of the rear (color, type of vehicle, identifying bumper stickers, etc). Platesmart has no connection to any other databases unlike Flock.

This has been a big debate lately where I live but the township purposely went with Platesmart because they didn’t trust Flock and some of the others. They also have intersection overview cameras but again, it’s just like the security camera you might have on your home, no database connections. What you see is what you get. If it has to be there, I’d rather have these systems over Flock.

I'll have to add my 2 cents for whatever it's worth. These systems are trying to install themselves as a safety net for the public. The government has and will always prioritize money over people's well being especially the most vulnerable.

This is just another way for the government to cash in on its people. @lil_Blue_Ford Don't be surprised when a whistle blower starts piping up about "Platesmart". They all eat at the same table, they are still a corporation with no check or balance.

I'm happy to see others pointing out the ridiculous surveillance and how some towns are fighting back with action, attending council meetings, and such.

this is my view on them as well, they catch fugitives and other bad people out there.

Unless I somehow become a fugitive, I dont really care about the cameras either. A person has to care about phones, laptops, PCs, and all there other junk now days before the cameras I would think. Phones listen to you and adjust your ads so someone else is listening too. Everything is being sold already

An investigation by Gamers Nexus found LG smart TVs sweep local networks to map phones and nearby devices. Tests also showed the sets can capture microphone audio with the screen off — they then upload data once reconnected to the internet.
