Full size axel swap 78 d44 and 9" SAS in 86 B2

Well since I started This new job doing concrete, i haven't had much time to work on the Baby.

Last Thursday I picked up the steel to make up my trac bar,
For anyone attempting this project, the Oddball metric tubing that will fit the Stock bushings was a Pita to find i found the larger 5/8 bushing fairly easy but i ended up having to get some really thick wall 1-1/4" tubing and turn down the inner wall until the bushing will fit.

Right now my dad is tapping my Dom for my tie rods, then i just have to weld and mount my trac bar mount, and measure for my trac bar length.

???what have people used for a lengthened rear flex brake line?? anyone have a part number off hand?

Lol he's using a laptop or iPad to take the pictures so everything gets flipped around in the pictures. I asked him why his diff was on the wrong side the other day.

Well i have been slowly but surely getting things done.
the other day i Picked up a bunch of parts
I got a new rear flex cable stock 79 ford bronco and the extension line Raybestos part #BH36593-definately have enough rubber line for plenty of flew now.
also picked up new u joint strap bolt kits for front and rear driveshaft at axle
25 ft of 3/16 brake line
a t fitting with two female and one male end for the driver side front flex line
a handfull of 3/16 end nuts
Front disk brake hardware kit.

And i picked up a front and rear drive shaft from a 2dr explorer sport i believe 96ish
both are double cardiac shafts,
i would like to run the front shaft in the rear but i need to swap the rear out put shaft flat flange on the tcase to the front output yoke from the 1354 tcase on the explorer
the problem I'm having is finding a socket that will work in the yoke,
I've been reading that i need a 30mm thin wall deep well socket, can anyone confirm this, or tell me where i can find such a socket?

i also got some work done fixing my tranny cross member so it will clear the front driveshaft.

today i also dropped off my tires to get mounted on my original steel 5x5.5 rims I'm running some meaty 235/75R15 Mudstar Mud terrains for now, until i can find a nice set of 33s

Tommarrow I'm working a little bit, then hopefully i can get my brake lines ran, and my tires put on.
Getting closer.

if your going to drive the hell out of this thing i would consider getting the spicer u joints. often i have to replace a joint after getting stupid with the throttle and have to run the junk from the parts store till i can get the spicer units in later after i fail one. but the junk at the parts stores fail much easier. i have had issues with the 1330 style all around, though 1310 and 1350 have proven much more reliable.

sometimes i use a hd steering link for a trac bar, and i prefer tierods over the heim style for a daily driver rag.

nice combination on the rear leaf hangers. maybe consider a piece of 10 gauge overlaid from the rail to the hitch.

well the master pro u joints from oriellys have a 2 year warranty, and for a 1/4 the price of spicer stuff i can have 2 spares in the truck at all times, i always grease and keep up on my equipment
don't get me wrong if i had the funds i would definitely go with all spicer u joints, and moog ball joints, ect.

I was thinking about welding the hitch directly to the frame, and possibly welding in some more steel for support, but its fine for now, i just need to get her up and driving first, then i can focus on beefing her up

well picked up my tires today and got the rear tires on and off the jack stands, gotta install lock outs and front rotors and flex lines, i also measured for shocks today

think I'm going with Rancho RS5115 in the front 13 compressed and 20.75 extended w/ 7.75"s of travel
and

RS5134 for the rear 19"Compressed, and 32.65" extended W/
13.625" of travel
those are rough measurements subject to change
still gotta get a better flexing mesurement for front n back once all four wheels are on her.

Hopefully i can get all the brakes plumbed up by the weekend, then ill feel accomplished :D

ok well Trs doesn't want me to update today, this is my 3rd attempt at an update
but I'm persistent

Its been a productive week
i got my tires mounted balanced and installed
also got my brake lines ran, connected and gravity bled

i fabed up my transmission Crossmember and got it all bolted into place.
now i just have to get the rear driveshaft in, the front driveshaft assembled out of parts from the original b2 shaft and the original 79 Bronco shaft

shocks are ordered and should be in on monday.

just have to finish Fabbing and installing custom trac bar and trac bar mount
do an alignment,
install lockout hubs
and get her plated and insured
and ill be road worthy

heres some pics of how she is sitting now.

Maybe in the next few weeks i will have some wheeling pics so i can take a stab at ORTOTM But she's still a long ways away from being finished. until next time.

well today i ordered my Shocks from 4wheelparts.com
should be here by the weekend
i got a good bleed on my brakes today
i got both drive shafts installed, i ended up using the original front bronco shaft unaltered except a 353 conversion joint at the d44
and a front drive shaft and yoke from a 1354 tease on a 2dr 4x4 explorer sport for the rear, with 353 conversion joint at 9"

i also set my toe in 1/4" for the front alignment

What is the best way to located the front axel when installing the trac bar and bracket,
I'm trying to center it with couple ratchet straps, but it almost wants to pull it down rather then over to center it

heres a couple pics of my trans cross member

Is your steering hooked up yet?
Unlock the steering wheel, turn the wheel the appropriate direction then lock it into place.
