95 Ranger. In 4 wheel drive the front end grinds while turning sharp left or right. I was going to replace the axle U joints. Before I did I jacked up all 4 wheels, started the truck, and idled in 1st gear 4 wheel high trying to find the noise. I noticed while the front hubs were turning I can grab them and stop them by hand. Do I have something broken in the front diff? I recently replaced the automatic hubs with Rugged Ridge manual. The hubs are in the locked position. I have a 10 bolt diff cover so I assume I have a Dana35. Anyone have an idea what is wrong?

I can't tell you what the grinding is. But with an open differential, you SHOULD be able to stop one wheel while the other is turning. That's how a normal open differential works. I hope that is at least partially re-assuring to you.
