Freakin police

it's also called stereotyping. The police see a vehicle with expired tags and they look it over. They look at the condition of the vehicle inside and out. Some have such a narrow spectrum of looking at situations that they automatically think the person they are writing the ticket to is a total shithead due to the condition of the vehicle. In some cases they write tickets to prople because they see a vehicle that is worth more money than what their house is worth. They write them and that person never takes it to court because he/she has the money to pay it and doesn't want to take the time to try and fight it. Which most times that isn't true. Don't get me wrong but there are some crooked ones out there and they were made to be that way.

My suggestion is go get the tags renewed and show up for the court date on time and dressed appropriately, show that the registration is indeed valid and current. Even though it was a couple days late. The judge may look at you and say "don't let it happen again" and you're off and running without the fine. The most that will happen is the fine sticks and you have to pay it.

For some reason or other mine always seem to arrive like 3 months early then I lose it and end up doing the renew online the night before I get it inspected, lol.

But yea, 1 day is 1 day. It sucks to get pinched, but that's the way it is. I've found that most of the time though you have to be doing something to gain their attention before they get you for something like that (speeding, flashy ride, loud stereo/exhaust, not using your turn signals, driving a rust bucket, etc). So you get their attention and then they notice things... and if you give them attitude, they keep writing. The only usual exception to the rule is the small town cops on a power trip (I got to deal with plenty of those off at college) because they are just looking for some way to wave their badge at you.

Well the funny thing is that i wasn't driving it was in my driveway.. Yes i do realize that i soulda payed it but i dont have the money now. but on the positive side it will give me a chance to smog it. cuz i kinda have to to get the ticket payed off.

so your vehicle was parked on private property? i would be disputing that!

at $1125 i'd hope i'd never have to buy a tag again! lol

and in MS any vehicle parked in a city limit has to be up to date on registration and inspection

inc private property? :icon_confused:

$1125? You guys have it easy. In British Columbia theres only one insurance company. And theyre controlled by the government. I pay $175 a month with a clean driving record. My buddy who's crashed and has a speeding ticket or 2, pays over 300 a month ($3600 a year)
:thefinger:

icbc doesn't give a shit about tickets unless your license is suspended... all they care about is accidents

i got pulled over on the 20th, for an expired plate, it was 20 days expired... yeah it sucks... i passed the cop, who was doing like 2 under the speed limit, i was doing the limit, and as soon as i passed her, she flashed the lights on... (male passenger did the talking and issuing of the ticket though) i got a break, i got a $172 fine for failure to produce paperwork (licence, registration, proof of insurance) where as i SHOULD have gotten drive unregistered motorvehicle, and/or display expired license plate ($252) PLUS an impound...

i THIKN drive unregistered is like 280 also...

drive no insurance is $2800 or 30 days in jail (if you don't pay it)

funny thing is, the ticket the cop wrote, didn't have his force or reg number on it, so i'm told it won't even be processed...

The state of Colorado gives you till the end of the month it expires. Then they give you a 30 day grace period on top of that till the end of the month after it expires. But that still is not enough for some people. Now they can charge you an additional 25bucks for being that one day over. Up to 100 dollars in incriments of 25 bucks a month. So it pays to pay it on time.

oh really? up here we get a discount on renewing late... 1 month late is 1/12th off...

this is for if you are parked or something, you don't need registration, and registration expires on the same day of the year, every year, no matter what, depending on your last name... mine will ALWAYS be april 31st, no matter what i do...

actually funny story... 2 years ago, i rode my motorcycle to work, and i was outside having a smoke with a few other officers, and we were looking at my bike, when i noticed i was like 4 months expired... luckly in my uniform i don't get tickets... i was doing 160 in a 100 zone and got off with a warning...

needless to say, i went into the registry the next day and renewed my truck and my bike

What if you go into witness protection or change your name or something?

Still better than Mass. They do it by your birthday.

if i changed my name, it would change... if i went into witsec, i would probably not live in this province anymore...

my wife just got her vehicle registration notice, her birthday is in sept. i do agree that if its on your property it shouldnt have to have a current valid registration. glad we dont have inspections here. ive made a few.......modifications.

Here where I live the police usually give you 5 mph over the speed limit but I know a few people who have gotten a ticket for 1 mph over. Although it seems unfair the law is the law. That 5 mph over is meerly a courtesy. But you would think that the cop would have cut him some slack for just one day over. I just had my drivers license renewed a couple days ago. They had been expired for almost two months but because of my knee replacement I couldnt go get them. The DMV never said a word about it. Funny how they will let somethings slide and others not. As far as speeding tickets go, I havent had one since 1987 but I drive like someones grannie

about 2 months ago a cop pulled out of a gas station as i speed by and pulls me over doing 65 in a 35 and i tell him im trying to get to the jy becasue they wont let anyone in past 5 when they close at 6. i figured crap my license is getting suspended at 18 but somehow he just told me to slow down. Man did i get lucky, the cops around here seem to give you a warning if your not an ass to them for them doing their job. but some are just plain old jackasses and do not care.

catch more flies with honey than vinegar... they do need to do their job, but honestly, if they pull you over and give you a warning, a stern warning, there is a much greater chance that you WILL slowdown in the future, kind of a "hey, i saw you, i COULD give you a ticket, but how about we behave a little?" makes you think, shit that was close... maybe i WILL slow down...

when i got pulled over doing 160 in a 100, i did 80 the rest of the way to work... (got a warning)

someone pissed in the sheriff's coffee... what did you do, bang his daughter?

Well my truck isnt bad looking but it isn't an eye catcher by any means. But I think it was just the end of the month and they needed there quota.lol but to everyone: I do realize that I is one day over and i did learn my lesson if its past due just don't drive it. But the cops around here dont like anything lifted and anybody that lloks like a redneck driving them. I dont get it but it is what it is...

I like the small town I live in. All my trucks and stuff sit outside and the cops wave as they go past. I went up to the police station to complain about a couple people that were coming past the house one day (really didn't want to be THAT guy, but I was tired of it - the last straw was when the one dirtbag that usually flies down a 35 mph road stopped and cussed me out for partially blocking the road with a skid steer loader as I was putting in my new driveway. When I stopped by the police station, the officer there shook my hand and invited me in his office, said that he'd been meaning to stop by one day and introduce himself. We had a nice chat for probably a half hour. And the best part - haven't seen that loudmouth speeder since.:headbang:

But yea, some small towns bring teh suck.

:sexe: Guilty as charged. And it was quite enjoyable. :icon_twisted::icon_rofl:

I hear that sort of thing a lot of times, but I never got stopped when driving my choptop. It's lifted, loud, and ugly (plus it dogtracks REALLY bad when you have both front hubs locked in and in 4x4 on the road). I can pull off the hick redneck look if I want to, but most of the time I don't bother. Jeans and a t-shirt are my everyday apparel.

As far as quotas go.... I know a few police officers. They've all told me that there is no official quota. But if they end up a little short overall in ticket revenue at the end of the month, they expect a better effort to write them. That makes sense, especially after watching a guy with a new 'vette around my old house breaking several traffic laws at once in front of a cop. Of course, the cop was also parked in the local Dunkin Doughnuts.... (sorry to the officers on the board, but it's true).
