Freakin police

$1125? You guys have it easy. In British Columbia theres only one insurance company. And theyre controlled by the government. I pay $175 a month with a clean driving record. My buddy who's crashed and has a speeding ticket or 2, pays over 300 a month ($3600 a year)
:thefinger:

That's bad.

I pay $15 a month for each of my RBVs.

Only $15 a month each? Lucky. I pay $265 a month for my Chevy (full coverage, newer truck, 15 over ticket and 2 accidents). Would be $50 extra for the Ranger which I might do next week. Reminds me I haven't gotten a bill for a month.

Older vehicle, minimum coverage (anything more is a waste since I won't report any damage to either vehicle anyway), on an 7 line policy since we have all 4 vehicles, the house, and two life insurance policies on it.

It will go up next month because we are dropping coverage on the S-10 Tuesday.
I was saying my license plate cost me $1,125.00 a year on my semi tractor not my insurance rate.

So what's insurance run you then lol? Does whoever owns the cargo your hauling cover it and your truck or do you have to have coverage for your truck and their cargo? or some combination of that or am I totally off base? Just curious.

my policy runs me $2,790. a year and covers Non-Trucking Liability, Bobtail, and Deadhead Coverage..the company you haul for only covers your insurance when you are working or hauling for them. When you are not working (i.e. getting repairs, getting the truck washed) the bobtail/Non-Trucking Liability Policy covers you.

86MUDRCJ, i'll trade you cost for your plates. my big truck runs me $1,125 for 80,000 pounds. and that's for 1 year. then fuel tax stickers and on top of that.. ahhhhhhhhhhhh the joys of being an owner operator..

Try running 107k in NY. lol

i don't see how owner operators make any money.... do you turn a profit? i'm not asking to know your salary or anything. i'm just curious. i know w/ diesel and maintenance and all the dang taxes and crap from the government.. how do you make money?

Fuel surcharge.

Fuel surcharge.

And then we turn around and stick that to whoever the poor fool is that needed something shipped by truck. :icon_thumby:

More often than not, if it is within half a state most guys would rather wait for a rainy day when they can't be in the field and pick it up themselves. A days worth of entertainment with the Mrs, and free freight to boot.

Not to mention how I loathe unloading farm equipment out of enclosed trailers...

Yea, tickets suck but you were asking for it, I drove with mine 6 months overdue for about 2 weeks after I got it running again, ptl I never got a ticket

I think the number 1 defense used by convicted war criminals is
'I was just doing my job." this is why people don't like cops now-yeah it would have made the cop less of a man to give someone a break -can't show weakness -

Times are tough and funding is getting harder to get. Rumor is around here, that you'll be ticketed for 1mph over now.

I'm not willing to chance it. I'll drive the speed limit.

Here where I live the police usually give you 5 mph over the speed limit but I know a few people who have gotten a ticket for 1 mph over. Although it seems unfair the law is the law. That 5 mph over is meerly a courtesy. But you would think that the cop would have cut him some slack for just one day over. I just had my drivers license renewed a couple days ago. They had been expired for almost two months but because of my knee replacement I couldnt go get them. The DMV never said a word about it. Funny how they will let somethings slide and others not. As far as speeding tickets go, I havent had one since 1987 but I drive like someones grannie

I heard somewhere (can't remember) recently that CA is changing the policies and sending the renewal notices later and giving a 30 day grace period.

It's also called stereotyping. The Police see a vehicle with expired tags and they look it over. They look at the condition of the vehicle inside and out. Some have such a narrow spectrum of looking at situations that they automatically think the person they are writing the ticket to is a total shithead due to the condition of the vehicle. In some cases they write tickets to prople because they see a vehicle that is worth more money than what their house is worth. They write them and that person never takes it to court because he/she has the money to pay it and doesn't want to take the time to try and fight it. Which most times that isn't true. Don't get me wrong but there are some crooked ones out there and they were made to be that way.

My suggestion is go get the tags renewed and show up for the court date on time and dressed appropriately, show that the registration is indeed valid and current. Even though it was a couple days late. The judge may look at you and say "Don't let it happen again" and you're off and running without the fine. The most that will happen is the fine sticks and you have to pay it.
