Ford Escape Front Hub/Bearing Questions

CV boot is rubber. I doubt it's getting destroyed by a bad bearing.

You aren't getting too rough with them putting them in are you?

It split all the way around the boot except about .25". This new CV axle they gave me is a piece of garbage. It makes some funky noises. I kept the OEM unit which was still in good shape, but whoever put the compression band on the shaft end of the boot got it too tight and it cut through it. So, I'll just get a new boot put on this thing and slap it back in.

I put the OEM half shaft back in, same shit. Soooooo, what does that mean? I damaged the damn bearing putting it in. It took massive amounts of pressure to get that prick in there, so I'm not really surprised.

It took me 4 times longer to get the bearing in and out as it did to disassemble the car. So I'm taking the knuckle out and taking it to the dealer. He told me it will take 15 minutes or less to do it there. I would have been better off doing this to begin with. Live and learn.

By the way, this pressed in bearing shit is incredibly stupid. I'd rather pay the extra money and get the complete unit like the newer RBV's.
