few weeks ago my tailgate handle breaks, so me knowing a few people that owned ford rangers and one guy who has a junkyard with a couple of rangers. I go searching for one to save a few dollars, with no such luck. so I call up the local ford to get the part, even with the shop discount I get with ordering through the body shop I work for, its still 62 dollars for one. my mom picked up the part for me today while I was at work. I get home today open the box and its a metal tailgate handle. I ordered one for a 2002 ranger, I thought they were all plastic handles. Is there any way this one will work with my truck. or do i have to get new handle or I could return this one and get a tail gate from buddys junk yard which would have metal handle. What do you think?

stuffforyourranger.com offers Ford brand OEM brand spankin' new in ford baggie all steel handles for like $20 US.

The only way to get the '01+ style all plastic handle is via ford or the obvious junkyards. For what it's worth, the steel one is a WHOLE lot stouter.

Mine broke and I ordered one through LMC for $15. The dealership wanted $35 near me. Why would you pay $65 for a handle when you have a knowledge base like this? :icon_confused:

I went to Autozone and got a generic Ford replacement.

It was several years ago, but I think it was like $10?

It'll work. The plastic handle broke on mine and I replaced it with the metal one. Bolted right up.

Use the metal one. The reason they all break is because the latches get water in them and stick and then it takes more force to move them than it takes to break the plastic handle.

The metal one won't do that.

so would my best bet to use the metal one i bought or return it to get a used one. there are pros and cons to both. i am thinking return that one and get one from junkyard or friend.
