A buddy of mine is offering me a Ford 400 tall block with C6 tranny and NP205 for about 200 bucks. He bought a 70's bronco for the dana 60's and doesn't need the engine/tranny. Supposedly the tranny has over $800 into it. Everything works. I just can't find any info on swapping that into my ranger. I don't know if it's the same as 351 swap?

Any thoughts?

old bronco into ranger

:icon_welder:i wouldn't due it for several reasons...
1) the 400 doesn't produce alot of pwer without some seriuos work... i've owned several in the 351m or 400 variations and they need work...
2) the 351/400 doesn't come in a tall or short block but either way they also have oiling issues that require special machinnig th correct...
3) there considably larger than a 302 and will reqiure exteensive mods to the truck to make them fit...radiator and vavle cover air cleaner are all going to be clearence issues.... i'd sell it to the highest bidder and look for4 a 302/c4/205 setup
4) as a note the 351 Windsor is a compltetly differant animal from the 351M/400... it shares most of its relation with the 302 small block..
...:icon_thumby: good luck..

I would presume that "Tall Block" in this instance refers to the fact that the engine's intake and carb are missing.

MY last 400 (in an '82 F-250) went to the junkyard as a RUNNING truck.

Thanks. Think I'll stick with the 5.0.

Chevy 350 fits right in.

My Uncle even has some OLD OLD catalogs(I forget the company) that MADE 350 chevy conversion motor/transmission mounts.

Didnt know a bronco ever came with a 60 up front or in back.

Unless some one swapped them in, they're not 60s.

Broncos had 44's and 9's.

Didn't early, early, what ever Broncos have 30's? Or am I thinking scouts?

you are correct. 66-70 EBs had Dana 30s.

if you want to get rid of the 400/c6/np205 I'll gladly take it off of your hands for you. :icon_twisted:

The cranks and heads can be switched around with a little work.

They are a darn good truck engine, it would be hard to utilize their power curve in a Ranger though.

theyre good for swapping in place of a 351M, not in place of a ranger

who cares when theres companies that MAKE sbf conversion motor/transmission mounts.

The 351/400m is a turd unless you are Jon Kasse and have unlimited fundage

Go 351W or 460,choose your poison.

Totally. If you are going to get an engine that doesn't fit in your engine bay to begin with, might as well do all-out.

If there is a lot of work into the tranny, you can probably make more than $200 of the setup, buy it from your buddy, flip it, and find something more suitable for your truck.
