so i scored a pretty sweet deal today on a weiand high rise intake and a holley 650 carb. can anyone tell me exactly what i need to do to convert my engine to carb'd? what wires go where? the 5.0's out of a 91 crown vic if that helps any...

its pretty much as simple as bolting on the intake and carb. you may have to get a traditional distributor if the original setup was TFI or whatever its called...

im not sure exactly its just a regular 5.0 out of a 91 crown vic

I was just getting ready to ask the same thing. My ears are listening to this thread. I have my engine in and I have started the wiring process. I spent an hour today trying to follow wires and label them. The problem I having is there are so many wires going to so many places. I’m having a hard time figuring out which wires are not needed and which ones are. That would be awesome if there was a thread with some photos. Hopefully someone can show us the light.

Wiring isnt fun but if you take it one wire at a time, you will get it to work. A nice wiring manual is also very helpful.

If you use an MSD 6AL box and an older magnetic pickup distributor or a billet race one, it's only 5 wires to get it to run

right on... ill be posting alot of pics here soon

MSD always sounds good to the ears, but hard on the check book. I'll probably take your advice and break down and buy one. What the hell...this things is already costing me a pretty penny. But, I'd rather do this vs. paying 7K on truck I know nothing about to drive around town. :icon_cheers:

The simplest route is to replace the intake, then drop in a points distributor, fitted with a steel cam gear and a Pertronix unit. Two wires to hookup, both from the distributor to the coil. Once it's running, you can decipher what wires of the EFI stuff can go.

remember youll need some way of lower fuel pressure.
and a return to tank line
and any 302 dizzy preferably steel geared and use moly grease thats all i know.

I installed a 5.0 H.O. roller into my first V8 Ranger. The next Ranger I bought, I installed a Crown Vic 5.0 roller. Both were FI and I converted them to carb. There was a huge difference in performance, even though there was very little difference in the mpg. So, I swopped out the E6 Crown Vic heads for a set of E7 H.O. heads, installed the H.O. roller cam, double roller timing set, single wire HEI distributor, Edlebrock intake with a Holley 650, dual exhaust, and it went from a mild mannered pussey cat to F**king tiger! :icon_hornsup: It would almost pull the front wheels! :shok:

This is what you need to do..Take the intake, EFI harness and computer and distributor off:bawling:and donate it to your local TRS member (me:icon_thumby:), bolt on your carb intake and carb, your new distributor ( points or electronic, or mid 80's model), run a couple of wires from your oil and H2O sending units to your truck's harness, hook up your ignition box, usually 2 or 3 wires plus the wires that go to your distributor, hook up a fuel pressure regulator (set around 7 psi), run a ground to your fuel pump relay so when the key is on, your fuel pump will also come on...I think thats about it for your wiring and fuel concerns
