fi to carb

u are goin to have to remove your intake pump and install a holley blue pump in line witha fuel pressure regulator. the stock pump has to much pressure. with a carb you will only run 4-7 psi of fuel pressure. you can get the pump and regulator from summit for like $140. you can also you the ranger factory wire harness with a carb set up. the wires are the same as the mustang stuff as far as accessories and oil pressure and all that. u can use a 4.0 ranger radiator with an electric fan that is revesible(mount in front of radiator) use the lower ranger 2.9L hose as the upper(you have to trim the radiator side a little) use a ranger 4.0 lower hose for the water pump to lower radiator(you have to trim this too and lube it up cause the waterpump is a little bigger but it will stretch over. also use 65 mustang try-y headers they fit perfect. use a lockar throttle cable. the shortest one they make and you will need to trim it. also you will need to pull the stock cable out of the casing because it has the end you need to mount to the pedal. just slip it in the lockar casing and trim to fit.

fuel and throttle cables are the only issues i have left now, im pretty sure at least. i do have a 4.0 ranger radiator it now and an electric fan from a taurus in front of the radiator already, and ive already installed the trans cooler. im also using the exhaust manifolds from an explorer with a gt40p and ive clearanced the floor as well. as far as gauges the only stock gauge in the truck will be the speedo. next on the list is getting my hurst shifter hooked up and finishing the 9" rear install.

do the duraspark distributor make sure the cam gear is the same metal as the cam. then use the HEI ignition setup (GM) four wire with a good coil. It sounds like the ticket just type HEI four wire in the search bar blue oval trucks the sister to TRS has some info there also. GL

do u think my 86 caprice with a 305 has it?

I`m just going by what I have read here have you been to the blue oval truck forum. I would think it has the TFI dizzy in the 86 caprice

I just checked the blue oval forums are just getting started and am trying to remember where I saw the info on the distributor gear needs to be the same metal as the cam. The wiring is real simple just put a ballast resistor on the power to the coil and lose the condenser.

hmm ill have to check into that. finding ford parts around here is ridiculous. everything around me is chevy. there isnt a single junkyard within 50 miles that has the ignition and coil that i want. i guess it makes sense to use some chevy shit then.

Mr.Gasket 12S pump................$30 at your local Autozone. Needs no regulator.

what do you guys suggest? should i get a tank from a carb'd ford ore just pony up and get a nice cell to put in the bed?

all i did was remove the pump from the sending unit and put a rubber fuel hose down about the same legnth as the pump was. works fine. i even used the stock line for the feed and mounted the pump where the orignal fuel filter was. you will need a barbed adapter. its a nitrous part. its so u can reatin the stock line with those plastic fittings. and the other side of the pump i made a metal line up along the firewall to the carb.

ahhh. my plastic tank is crap tho.

what could be wrong with it its plastic. you can do a fuel cell but you wont be able to dricve long on 5 gallons of fuel

well.... i drilled a big hole in it to get the full tank of gas out of it last year when i parked it. and this truck is not going to be a road trip truck or daily driver by any means. it will be driven at most every other weekend.
