Explorer Axle Conversion - Forked (Dented) Driveshaft

So, in getting ready to put the 8.8 Explorer axle in my ranger, I picked up a one piece driveshaft out of a 1999 extended cab.

The forklift operator at the junkyard I use typically annihilates driveshafts on pickups, and today I THOUGHT I got a hold of one that he didn't mangle.

Until I took it out of the bed of my truck when I got home.

So, the new one piece is dented from forklift forks. It's not "bad" per se, but it definitely has a flat spot in it. Maybe 1/16-1/8" deep dent, 6" long. It's forked up. (trying to make myself laugh here)

So... What are my options?

They had the balls to charge me $65 for it as well. It's getting shoved up someone's tailpipe tomorrow at the yard.

no way to repair a dent in a shaft other than to retube it... and that can be anywhere from $60 to $500...

What length? 2wd or 4wd? Details?
I think I still have the aluminum 2wd supercab driveshaft I picked up years ago. It should be in my shed, still shrink wrapped to a 2x4.

It took me months to dig one up.

I think the truck I found it in was junked after the trans was pulled therefore it was toted around the yard with the driveshaft in the bed.

Some places are more careful, especially yards that pull parts for you. United Auto Recyclers in Omaha did have a couple in stock a year ago and I almost got one from them, I think they ship.

I've got a 2002 Ranger extended cab with an 8.8 rear axle. You drive to Illinois and you can have the driveshaft.

Fix it... you can replace the tube for like 12 dollars.

Parts are cheap, an hour replacing the tube and whatever they get to balance it takes it from $12 to over $200. A brand new Tom Woods shaft with new everything was around $400 for my truck.

He's got a welder. And cost for balancing is only about 50 bucks around here. My place does it on the car, takes about 30 minutes.
