1996 ford explorer 2wd straight axle conversion

Is there a difference in 2wd/4wd coil towers and frame width? I am wanting to convert a 2wd 1996 explorer to a straight axle dana 44 out of a early bronco. I know I would need to install traction bars and a control arms.

Got me thinking, did the '96' have spring coil towers? Thought they had just gone to the torsion bar suspension. Frame width is the same I believe.
