Explorer 5.0 intake manifolds

Ha yep I get told I do all the time but I have a hard time listening to them to finish the convo.

Huh? I forgot Lol

As far as I can tell, all the Explorers had the cross-over exhaust provision, that goes way back to the carb days to heat up the incoming air/fuel mixture. Even most aftermarket heads have the cross-overs, the GT40-P heads do. It's the difference in the 90deg elbow from the '96' to early Explorer TB elbows that were made to accept the internal or were blocked off. Lots just block them off no matter which system unless smog concerns.

Deleting the smog system is something I need to look into. Swapping a 98 Explorer 5.0L with EFI and much of the electrical system into my 86. In a way I would like to get rid of the smog system since there's no testing here, but at the same time would like to keep it smog legal in case I move somewhere that requires it.

Just ordered a upper and lower manifold set off eBay. I'm gonna take my spare block in to get rebuilt as soon as I finally get a day off and then she should in up and running by the end of next month!

Keep us posted that's something I'll probably be doing before long. My donor was at about 190K when I bough it. It was running good, but I don't know how it was treated before so no idea how much longer it may last. I don't want to touch the motor until I have the truck running, that way I know if the swap doesn't work it's an electrical (only thing I really screwed with) problem and not a mechanical one.

But it was a PITA to pull, plus I left my 60 dollar socket set sitting there - and someone took it. So I guess that overall I lost out. LOL

And that's why I'm building "Junkyard Toolbox". Slowly replacing all of the good tools in my junkyard box with Harbor Freight tools when they go on sale. That way if I accidentally leave a socket set lying in a truck it's a $20 dollar loss instead of a $60 loss. It'll also be handy to have for trips and truck meets/mod day events.

I just replaced it with a 30 dollar HF set.

Posting from the Galaxy.
