Are there possibly any EV Ranger owners out there, (98-2002)? My original 2001 Ranger owners manual references one and I was at a loss. My manual pic and google info link.

Yeah, they only sold a tiny percentage (most were leased and returned).

My "new to me" 2000 Ford Ranger Electric. Only about 1800 of these trucks were built, and most were crushed by Ford in 2004. This is one of probably about 2-300 survivors, thanks to the efforts of groups like Plug in America to save them from the crusher.
This truck in particular has only been driven 6,677 miles in its 19 years on this earth, so it definitely hasn't seen much action. It was originally powered by a 2000lb Lead Acid battery pack, but has since been swapped out for LiFePO4. The current pack is dead from sitting for the last 6 years or so, but I have every intention to get it...

i know im a year late, but the big three all had their own EV's in the early 2000's. A lot of americans actually loved them, but the funding from the government was lessened and the manufacturers actually started taking the cars back and crushing them immediately. I learned about it in my high school auto class.

It actually wasn't government funding that ended. There were a few factors in play, but the biggest was the fact that the automakers got the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to repeal the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate.

If the charging cord is up front in the bumper, then whats behind the “fuel” door on the bed?
Its cool and all but with ohios surcharge on electric vehicles (yearly-registration renawal $) I wouldnt be getting one unless I swapped some serial tags around to “make” it a gasser.

There's actually nothing at all behind the fuel door! Just a plastic block off cap, haha. I had hoped to add CHAdeMO fast charging to the truck. If so I would have moved the j-1772 to the fuel door location, and put the CHAdeMO inlet up front.

Absolutely. I've got a 20-mile round trip drive for work that would make something like that really appealing, especially with the ability to haul/tow since my route goes right past the dump.

Even if it only did 50 miles on a charge, I'd be fine with that.

Had no idea they were so rare, I saw one in Bellingham, WA a couple years ago plugged in to a nissan leaf. Cool little trucks.

Thanks to all for the info and the links. All of it new to me. I bought my Ranger new in 2001,(actually leased it then bought back after the lease), from "Sunrise Ford" in San Bernardino, Southern California. Never was there ever any mention of these EV Rangers from the dealer.
Strange and sad that most of them were destroyed.
