Escorts 2nd SAS

I think I found the problem....

The tierod end is loose. It is moving up and down but there is no side play. That is why I never found a loose tierod by just checking the play at the tire....also the trackbar axle end is loose some, but never have any problems with DW from it. I tightened it some after the video was shot and it helped some. looks like i will have to make another draglink. I wonder if I could make it somehow with a removable TRE instead of replacing the whole thing.

Oh, and here is a picture of the center caps on...

Yup mine was the samething but on the other end of the trackbar. Mine had alto of movement to the point that the tires could be moved side to side when jacked up almost 3 inches due to the end was loose and that is more then enough to have them move side to side quickly and violently to cause the DW.

IIRC your draglink is custom made and the TRE isnt replacable on yours where it connects to the knuckle. And it looks like the TRE is about to pop out of the draglink and that wont end nicely either. I wonder what is loose on the trackbar either the end is wore out or the bolt is shot.

Also sounds like your engine is surging too, my old 2.3 did that and was one of the reasons I got rid of it.

I was reading up on the Bundy Hill and it says that you need at least one tow point or receiver (and I think a winch and locker) and my truck has nether of those. I also wonder if I could get a flag and the 7 foot pole cheaper then buying it from them too.

well i have recovery points... but no winch... and no locker yet... (i do for the 8.8) lol

what kind of park requires you to have a winch and locker. recovery point-- i understand!

Its a little confusing reading it. A winch and/or locker is required for the harder trails. I called and asked them about it.

They will let you in with anything as long as you pay the entry fee. They didn't even look at mine when I was there.

Was a fun place to go, lots and lots of dust, but a fun day trip.

I want it muddy. Makes sence to have a winch and locker for the harder trails. I just need a tow hook point to meet the min requirements.

So how bad are the tre and trackbar ends?

The trackbar is just the play in the rubber bushing. I am looking into just replacing it with a poly bushing or maybe just put a hiem or something in there. The TRE is shot and looking now for a replacement. No such luck. Looks like i will have to buy a new one and modify it.

Thats alot of play for the rubber bushing. I would go rubber or poly bushing, if not, you will feel every bump from it and so will everything else in the system attached to it, needs to have some give.

If your draglink is custom, them custom is what will have to go back on it. How much longer (or shorter) is it then a factory XJ draglink?

The xj is only 1" longer than my custom one. I was looking into a crossover system to have bigger tre's but money is what i dont have right now. The crossover will cost me about $300.

Also i noticed the passenger side front wheel bearing is loose. So that will need replaced also.

Change of plans. The trip to bundy hill will be on aug 21st that sunday. Friend cant make it saturday. If he cancels on me again i will just go without him...anyone want to join me?

I would join you if I had the money.

My front passenger wheel bearing went on me first too.

I think my draglink is to long hince why my steering wheel isnt straight but it does drive straight.

I recently replaced the driverside when it was under the 89. The passenger side is still the original bearing from when it was on the XJ.
Tomorrow i have a vacation day and will go to advace auto and get a new draglink/tierod and monday start to take the sterring apart and modify it.
