Escorts 2nd SAS

I bought the cheap one from advance auto, didnt have the money to get the best one avalible at the time.

Replaced the worn out tie rod today. Had to drive across town to the only parts store that had the part, Autozone. I took some pics of the process this time.
Have the new and old ones together, the stock xj TRE is too long

Cut the two ends off...

Cleaned up the cut and beveled the edges to get a better weld...

Here is the finished TRE....

Put some paint on it and took for a drive and no more clunking....:icon_thumby:

You need to sleeve that joint and use some plug welds. It will fail over time.

Please sleeve it!!!!!!!!

May end up doing that to mine so the steering wheel sits right and I gain some of my left turn back.

I will put a sleeve on it next week. Had to get it back together quickly to go to work today. It should be ok for now, this is the same way it was on the other truck ran it this way for 2 years so it should be ok for now.

Seen this on ebay..... Super cheap price, quality is probably the same (cheap)

EDIT: also got the alignment dead on now. Drives so much better.

Have a design in mind for my front bumper. Thinking of keeping the stock bumper but make a mount for a winch behind the bumper and reinforce the bracket mounts for the bumper and have the fairlead run through the opening in the bumper. Any thoughts on it?

For $25 more, you can get a smitybuilt one though. I wonder what others would think about it though, it doesnt have a brand name and looks really generic. Ya has a 1 year warrenty on it but what does it exactly cover though?

I do see that it only weighs 77lbs (as much as both our longarms put together) and has free shipping too.

My thoughts exactly

I wonder how many suckers they have sold them to?

Idk. Get the smitty. Get it from 4wheelparts and they offer a $50 warranty thing that works out great. Where they can replace it thru 4wps instead of having to send it in or
Something

not planning on buying a winch off ebay. Just thought it was funny seeing that. I am looking into a rugged ridge. I hear they are decent quality. I would love to get a warn but cant afford it...
I like 4wp. Done a lot of buisness with them in the past and might drive down there to save on shipping. They only an hour drive. Also thought of getting from summit.

I prefer the smitty over the summit and rugged ridge. I've dealt with all three. Don't own any...

i plan to run 33x12.50x15s & have heard to run 4.56 for fuel economy & also heard that 4.88s would be better for power.

Its a one time think to do so what all do you guys think is best for 33s with a 2.3 /5spd. Im not decided as I do have a camper that I would haul during the summer months also, but yet its a DD & see's lots of hwy use.

well on my 89 it had 4.56 and 35's. It could never go over 65 in 4th gear and could never use OD. U should be ok with 4.56 and 33's. I'm sure yours has less miles than mine....
