So the inner and outer bearings that I got from O'Reilly's for my front brakes did not come with races. I've read that usually I'd punch out the races that come with the rotors and use the races that come with the bearings, however in my case since there's no races with the new bearings, can I use the ones that came with the rotor?

Some people re-use the old races. In my experience, new bearing in old race usually tears up one or the other. If the store isn't far I'd get the whole bearing and replace as you expected. If it's a giant hassle to exchange them you can run it and keep an eye on them (or ear).

Never seen a new bearing not include the damn outer race. I'd take them back.

That said... new rotor has new races. Technically... your raceless bearings should work with those new races in the rotor.

I should have asked if you were replacing the rotors too. Do you have new rotors or are you just doing bearings?

I think they're doing this now because the rotors come with races so why not save 10 cents? 🤬

You can. Not ideal, but I've done it multiple times with no verifiable ill effects. I tend to have bearings last several years.

I went and exchanged them; they had the right ones in stock. In case anyone is wondering you have to ask for 'the set' for the bearings to come with races.

I am putting new rotors on, but from what i read the preferred method is to use the races that come with the bearing set rather then those that come with the rotors.

I really prefer to use bearings that came out of the same factory and used the steel the engineers wanted to use and were machined to work together. You can get away with mixing and matching but a matched set will go 100k miles properly adjusted.

While on topic, and this may be a silly question, but do I use a different grease on the bearings then on the slider pins on the support bracket?

You can use wheel bearing grease on the slider pins, but don't use random grease on wheel bearings. Use quality grease that says it's for wheel bearings on wheel bearings. Slider pins, as long as the boots are in good shape, pretty much any grease is fine. I like to use synthetic hydrophobic grease there.
