I tried searching for my question but I did not have any luck finding a rock solid answer.

My coworker is doing motor swap on his ranger

He is replacing a 1999 4.0L Overhead Valve With A 2002 4.0L SOHC

He has everything worked out except......

The ignition on his truck is not compatible with the new motor's ecu and the pats signal. So he gets crank but the injectors are silent. His local dealer is stumped for an easy answer until their head guru gets back the first of the year.

I wish I could give you more specifics about his rig but he has not emailed me with more yet.

He has since reconfiqured the wiring harness pins and had the dealer reprogram the ecu.

This is because that PATS module is disabling the injector drivers in the PCM.

It's sensing there isn't something right. Have FORD sync the key and module. Problem solved. You may end up needing NEW stuff though.

I'm just a little confused! What year truck and what year computer? You say the motor that went in is a 2005, last 5.0L was in 2000-2001. The 2005 Ranger does not have the PAT's so depending on what you have, might have some wiring to do. Ranger44 is right, it's a PAT's problem most likley.

I don't think he ever mentioned it was a 5.0?

Most likely a 4.6 or 5.4.

I know he never mentioned what motor or what it was going into. Don't know about the 2005 4.6 but looking at the 2006 Explorer and Mustang wiring diagrams, they both actually have three separate CPU's now, two located right up on the passenger side front fender, completely different from the Ranger.
That's one thing that iritates me is half a question/half the info - my truck is running rough, what's wrong? He wants a good answer but has us all guessing what. Hope you understand this goes on all the time.
