Personally i would have stood the rear bumper up on its edge and recessed it in like a roll pan. Less protection to the corners but it would look better to me.
That was my original plan, but because it is 6" wide, it would have hung super low. My next thought was turning it up at an angle (probably like a 45*), kind of a compromise between the two, but at 10pm the night before I was thru caring and slapped together what was easiest. I do still like the idea of angling it up so it doesn't stick out so far.
edit: I do kind of like the fact that it makes a nice step when I am getting into the bed of my truck, and it would be perfect to put an LED light bar recessed under the tailgate for a backup light. idk.
